I'm sorry for your loss OP, it must be worse to loose your cat so unexpectedly :(
  • Thank you so much, he was so well a week ago and had his whole life ahead of him, thanks why I can't quite believe he's passed. He was so young even last night in the vets when I kissed him good bye his fur was soft and glossy.

So sad when they die young. Not everyone realises how much they mean to you. I lost one of mine when he was 4, I was devastated and cried for weeks, even 3 years and 3 new cats later I miss him loads.

I made a collage of all his best pictures and put it on the wall. I also have his ashes in a photo frame casket in the house.

Everyone is different but we got 2 kittens quite soon after he passed away, mainly as our remaining cat was unhappy and clingy. They didn't replace him but I felt as I got them from rescue, I was honouring his memory (and we named one after him, by using one of the nicknames we use to call him).
  • Thank you lilyjade

I think I might have to get a rescue cat to honour his memory, I just can't be without a cat now he had imprinted himself on our hearts. But as you say none can replace him. I have looked at some of his pics and a video of him but they just make me cry again! Although I'm glad I have them.

He was our first fur baby x

  • Thanks scaredy_cat I hope so, I visited him last night when they said he might not survive the night and now I wish I'd spent longer with him but I wanted him to rest and get better. And he was all sleepy from his anaesthetic but he still opened his eyes and he could see me there hugging him and talking to him, I told him he had to get better but I think it was all just too much for his little body to take.

It's all just too raw right now

Sorry to hear that news.... it doesn't matter how long you have had your pet because somehow you can't envisage the day when they will be gone, and in your case that wasn't long at all. You kind of think the 'what ifs'....
I seem to be posting this a lot this year, but if you need to talk to someone or e-mail here is a free service- all the contact details are on this page:

    I'm so sorry
The rawness will ease and in time you'll be able to revisit your happy memories with a smile but it takes time <hug>

  • thank you everyone for your kind words, I am still so sad about him, he was our fur baby, and maybe I shouldn't have put so much of my heart towards him and it wouldn't hurt so bad now. But he wil always be with me.

Can I ask people a macabre question? The vet will call - and I dont know what to do, I couldn't bear the thought of him just being dumped, his little body, but I dont think the OH would want to cremate him, or keep his ashes. and we dont have a garden where we can bury him. Did anyone go to se their fur babies or would it not help to see him now his life is gone?

Its just so weird cause everywhere I see memories of him.

Personally I can't cope with anything dead...probably sounds daft. I had to be persuaded by the undertaker to see my mother...it's that bad.
I am with my dogs when they are pts, so I see them literally "go to sleep", and after that I want to remember all the good times, maybe put together a collage of lovely photos, or rosettes. So I let the vet dispose of the body.
I know other people who bury them in their garden: I couldn't and wouldn't with a teeny garden.
Others have the bodies cremated and then either scatter the ashes or have an urn (which often sits on the bookshelf, whatever.) Cremations and urns are yet more expense so bear that in mind.
See, maybe you would rather put that money towards the costs of a new fur baby ......at sometime in the future.
    Honestly the choice is yours

    Thinking of you. Take care
