A few years ago I bought a few clip purses on ebay for £1 each and used them for 'spends', 'groceries' and 'fuel'. Having the cash about didn't work for me as I was robbing one purse for another, so hope it goes well for you Nelly.
DFW is a bit like dieting (something I occasionally flirt with, but life's really too short), getting everything organised and knowing your plans and what triggers something in your brain that works for you is half the battle!

I've lost 7lbs just by budgeting!!!! :rotfl:
I walk around with about 6 different little envelopes in a little baggie...It's almost like my comfort blanket now:rotfl:
I really want to try and make some lasting little envelopes, I sit every day and take out what I didn't spend the day below out of each envelope's allowance - eg £5 allowance for groceries, or £1.10 for DS's breakfast club...if I don't spend them, then they go into another envelope called savings...if I need it, I can dip into it as necessary, but I don't get any more money out that month...whatever is left over is used for any special spends, or get's banks for overpaying loan.2024 Challenges- Grocery Budget (January £0/£300)

Oooh, from what I understand that's VERY YNAB, every penny has a purpose, if you don't spend it on x then it goes to savings/ debt. :T
I WISH I'd lost weight but we seem to be eating better than ever with all homemade meals these days. Maybe summer and the homegrown salads will help... *wistful sigh*Debt 2008 - Approx £20k | April 2014 £6526 | 30 October 2015 DEBT FREE

Haha! I am doing that with my water bill at the moment...although don't get early payment discount, I set up a DD for £30 pcm and I have no idea if that is realistic, way too much or way too little as we only moved in Feb...I'm seriously hoping a bill comes this month (and I'm checking online every day!)...I NEED TO KNOW!!!Debt Free I FFEF I Building Savings I 2025 Plan:- Regular Savings £8,200/£10,000

Well. As today isn't a NSD because I paid the phone bill early and saved money which paid down debt (I almost feel like I'm being 'penalised' on the NSD count for being MSE), I'm going to buy myself the new Stephen King book.

Spreadsheet re-jiggity-jigging.
Been moving some stuff around and I think I may have figured out how to get a new bed 5 months earlier AND clear my overdraft a month earlier than planned.
If I can get IF finance on the bed (no reason to think I can't, my credit file seems pretty sound and recentish approval by Barclaycard for their long IF deal has given me confidence), rather than putting away a couple of hundred quid or more a month from August and not buying the bed until end of January, I use the money that would have been saved to pay off the finance at a slightly lower rate than I would have been saving a month, but over a few months more, I can get a bed in AUGUST. Plus, by extending the period of the 'bed fund' I could clear my OD by March and, of course, stop paying interest on it.
Part of me is a bit 'but it's MORE debt', but I think it'll be ok. It's only for a very short period of time (10 months) and doesn't affect my final DF date (might even make that a bit sooner), plus it is actually saving me money by clearing my OD sooner.
The OTHER thing I have still to take into account is from September my wages will be up by £32.50 as my bus pass expires (that I pay for monthly at source) and I won't be renewing it. Have had my money's worth already this year before I changed jobs, but now husband I and lift share, even when I do have to get the bus, it's nowhere near that amount.Debt 2008 - Approx £20k | April 2014 £6526 | 30 October 2015 DEBT FREE

My personal view is that if it has been given sensible consideration and essentially saves money, having that little more financial freedom (and actually more going towards debt each month) can only be a good thing. I could have paid off my purchase loan (sofa on IF) recently but chose not to as I knew later in the year I would end up having to put more on a C/C to cover car stuff. So it's more debt now but it's beneficial in the long run

My thoughts exactly, T2rry. PLUS I can research in-store, but if I order online I can get about £120 cashback through Quidco. No brainer really.Debt 2008 - Approx £20k | April 2014 £6526 | 30 October 2015 DEBT FREE
