Old Style Solutions for Constipation

Options
Just getting over an operation - so on some strong painkillers.
Not asking for medical advice just some ideas or foods that OStylers have found useful?

Thanks xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

My DS suffers with constipation and things that work for him are

warm prunes (with custard if your not keen)
    fresh OJ
    Pears
    tangerines
    scrambled eggs

Drinking plenty helps too, will help with your recovery too.
    Get well soon.

Rare steak, blue if you can tolerate it works for me everytime.

Or speak to your pharmacist about something like macrogol.

I speak as someone who has defied medicine regarding this area so I'll tell you what can sometimes work for me:

Lentils - they can really get you moving.
    Prunes/plums.
Epsom salts - not good if you have problems with blood sugar levels
Greasy food - can sometimes really get things shifting. Doesn't work for everyone.
    Coffee.
Foods containing sorbitol really get some people moving.
Spicy foods. - all the better if they've got lentils in too (e.g. dhal.)
Oats/oat bran - I wouldn't use any other form of bran as it can really irritate the stomach. Oat bran is more gentle.
    Linseed/flaxseed

Also check with your doctor to see if you can take a probiotic with your medication. Some drugs can really irritate the stomach e.g. antibiotics and a good probiotic can help maintain good gut flora. I take one every day for various reasons.
