Heartily agree with the liquorice.
2days following the birth of my DD in 1980, I had an operation - was nil-by-mouth for 15hrs beforehand and then 'slept it off' for a couple of hours afterwards. As a result, I had no food at all for over 24hrs. No bowel movement the following day OR the next ................. when nurse arrived on the 3rd day to enquire 'yeah or nay' I said 'nay' AGAIN. She then went 'to snitch' to sister and came back with a dish containing suppositories and told me to 'turn over'. 'Not bl***y likely !' said I ................. so 'little-miss-snitcher' went running back to sister to ask what to do next.
By the time she got back to my bed with sister, I was sat upright with a box of Liquorice Allsorts on my knee and was also busy peeling a humungous 'Jaffa Orange' ................... sister :rotfl: and said 'that's alright, nurse - don't bother she'll soon go!'. I DID too - about 20mins later :j!0 -
Ground linseed - a spoonful in every meal (dull, but if you have lost you appetite you won't care much that all your food tastes the same...).
I have a similar problem post-op this time (odd as I had no opiates, but then I'm back on iron supplements). Dried apricots or figs if you don't fancy prunes (I cook them in my porridge with seeds and ground linseed). Pears for soluble fibre. Lots and lots of water.
