Exactly. Bank Holiday used to mean something before this damned liberal 'get what you want and get it now' crazy faze swept through the western world.
An extract from the Giblet Manifesto is "all services, except blue light, to be closed on bank holidays".
What is wrong with the world these days people? Why are we so impatient?!Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
Get a crime reference number..freely available from the police.
On the other hand, ask yourself "why did I phone this number on a bank holiday? why couldn't I just wait until normal working hours after the break?"
OK, so you couldn't get through because they were closed, which is surprising given they operate two large centres 24x7 (Pitreavie and Leeds) but they will get stats on attempted calls. By trying to call on a bank holiday you add to the demand and therefore next time some oiks on minimum wage will be forced to work a bank holiday.
Believe me, some gob!!!!! senior manager or 'head of' in their telephone banking department is sure to say "we had x number of calls but couldn't answer them so let's make a big deal of it and open a call centre at the next bank holiday".
Now, next time you call, try to call during office hours. Think back to the 1980's in the nicer times before call centres and you won't go far wrong. And you'll be doing your bit for the good of society and family life.
Read my post and you will see why I rang them up.Read my post and you will see why it's misleading.I don't mind people having bank holidays..what I do mind is saying they are there 24/7 me ringing up putting my credit card details in only to be told they are closed.Call our uk call centres 24/7 for help or advice.Thats just plain wrong.
The wording needs to be changed!!0 -

Oh right I see and First Direct are they not a bank?!!
Bank holiday by definition means it's not 24/7 then which proves my point.Change the wording!!0 -
Why can people with frivolous complaints such as yours never, ever follow the correct procedure?
Is causing a drama and getting some attention really more important than resolving your complaint?
And before you ask why it's frivolous, I'll tell you...
They do offer a service 24/7, as they claim, they just don't offer EVERY service 24/7, and you called out of hours for one that is not offered.
Complaining that they don't offer a service that they don't claim to offer is just silly.
It would be silly if it weren't true but on my statement it sayes "Call our uk call centres 24/7 for help or advice just call number at top of statement"
How is calling that..getting asked to put your credit card details in and then being told they are closed help or advice??!!
The leaflet sayes also that I can talk to an advisor so I rang the other 0845 number but again closed.
What is the definition of 24/7?Have I got the definition wrong?
Please correct me as I assumed it meant all the time!!0 -
I had no issues calling their fraud team at 3am. I was chatting online. Nobody seemed to sleep back then.
Someone posted a link to a fake egg website. I tried the link and swapped egg for the other banks and sure enough several others popped up.
I called the Halifax and got through to a guy and had a good chat with him.
We took it in turns finding mistakes. Seemed quite knowledgable.
I did have visions of the office staff going in the next day to be told the janitor found a load of fake websites and should get a big bonus
Maybe they chose the wrong option and that office was closed?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Misleading advert?
ASA.
Not fraud, not criminal, just misleading.
One person's misleading is anothers 'common sense' however.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

Result achieved:-)
A manager rang today to acknowledge my complaints one of which had been dealt with in relation to a late payment which was their fault...The other as I posted on here about the misleading 24/7.
They have said they are going to try and get the wording changed and will be passing it to the relevant departments.
When I mentioned the distress caused they said they would give me £40.£20 for distress caused and £20 for inconvenience.
The punishment fits the crime I think well it's not a crime is it as you all rightly pointed out to me so maybe The punishment fits the mistake would be better.
Thanks for all your posts and help:-)0 -

As a Halifax customer I am personally insulted that they have bunged you £40 for this ridiculous claim of the 'distress' of discovering a bank call centre wasn't open on a bank holiday.0 -
And as a shareholder I am even more disgusted that you got £40 for being so silly as to think that a bank would offer full service on a BANKHoliday!!!0
