Tesco Technika TV's

My Ma is looking for a new flat screen TV, has some Tesco vouchers to use up and asked my opinion on this.

Are Technika any good? Are they made by a larger company and rebranded as Technika for sale by Tesco?

Thanks for any advice.

Its all about what you can afford. If you can only stretch to one of these then you may be lucky , you may be not.

They are rebadged cheapies.....definitely not made by large " reputable" manufacturers.

You even have to be carefull with the cheaper TV's produced by reputable manufacturers, they can't compete on price any longer so their budget TV's are also quite often rebadged cheapies.

The main thing that suffers with cheap brands is reliability and availability of spares.

I previously worked for a large electrical retailer and at one point they started selling what looked like a good value for money Sharp. We found out later that spares were not available so in the 1st year the sets were automatically exchanged however once you were out of the warranty period you were stuffed.
  • I really would not get a cheap brand of TV (as a main set), you will be dissapointed.
Maybe wait for a sale or buy an outgoing model of a more trusted brand like Sony, Samsung or Panasonic.
We bought an ex demo Sony Bravia about £100 cheaper than current models nearly 3 years ago and it hasn't skipped a beat and so much nicer than our previous cheapie Acoustic Solutions we had previously from Argos.
  • Thanks guys. I've advised her to stick with Samsung, LG and Sony.

All you can do is advise!

They're not made by any one manufacturer, they're just over-runs or surplus/obsolete stock that Tesco have badged up for them. As such, spares are rarely available. And they seem to have an uncanny ability to develop faults about one month out of warranty. Avoid at all costs.

Tell your mother to use the vouchers on groceries and avoid buying any of the supermarket brands of television.
These cheapies are poor quality and totally lack any after sales care.

Would she really be content with a 24" screen?

Though to be honest it's not going to make any difference on a 24" telly.

Yeah, it'll make minimal difference with a such small screen.

I think the general consensus is that this is just a cheap (£129) telly rather than a bargain.

I had a Technika for several years and it was ok.
Toshiba all the way now though :)

If you're into warranty's and all that, John Lewis do price matching so find it the cheapest possible (must be a brick and mortar store), then ask JL to price match.
You will then get a 5-year warranty automatically.
