  • Well hello diary,

It's been a week since I last visited, not much has happened on the MSE front. This week is a weeks' holiday for us, so we have been to the Eden project, had a day of pottering about and today Mrs DM is taking her daughter shopping whilst I am home sorting out/ironing/washing/checking diaries. On a better note, we have a major regulatory inspection coming up (that's not the better bit!) but the company want me to do a couple of weekends of sorting out, so that's a large bucket of overtime coming my way....hopefully I will be able to keep it for sorting my finances, rather than the bit that's in the next paragraph....

I have been trying to keep my OH's finances out of my head, she is poor at keeping her spending in check. She has debts from before we got together and hasn't really kept on top of things. This week she had her transaction declined at the supermarket and has now started receiving calls from a DCA for money owed to CCs. I have kept our finances completely separate purely on the basis of something like this. However, no letters have been sent as yet from the DCA, so we will see how long they persist before sending anything. I hope that these don't progress any further, but have been reading the MSE threads on dealing with DCA's, hopefully that will put me in good stead for dealing with them (because, lets face it, OH isn't going to do it). Oh, I feel a rant coming on...better have a cuppa before I really start getting annoyed.

Right, gonna go check this washing and get the next lot ready (and try to calm down a bit).

    More later

    DM

  • Oh DM.....really sorry to hear about the problems with your OH's debt. I doubt there is much I can say to help, but if you need to chat / offload please do. Is there any chance of them having their own LBM now that things have progressed? It doesn't seem fair for you to have to be the one planning to deal with it (I doubt these comments are helping you to feel calmer, so I'll go and put the kettle on and make you a brew instead!)

Really good news re: the overtime tho. How fantastic. I hope it can go towards your own endeavours, in fact it SHOULD do (putting my foot down with a firm hand, lol). Hope you've managed to have a nice time on your week off, despite the worries x

  • Oh Gib...I like a woman who can take control ;)

My overtime will most definitely be going towards my endeavours (just like you told me to...I can take orders and know my place), I am trying to make sure I make progress on my bits and pieces before dealing with OH debts, although that nagging thought just won't let go and wander off to a happy place.

OH has had a small glimmer of a LBM, although at the moment it seems to be a bit more of 'only spending what I have' rather than reducing what she's spending. I tried talking to her about the money issues, and was not too politely told to 'bu**er off'. Even trying to get a bank statement has proven to be a no go. We had some issues a while ago with money going from her account, which, when investigated, was found to be a family member using her card to get phone credit...I was furious (and believe me...when I am mad....when furious....watch out), so much so I wanted police action, but she refused to do it, saying they didn't mean it...testicles I thought, of course they meant it, they just didn't want to get caught! Needless to say, I haven't forgotten what they did....revenge is a dish best served cold.....

Speaking of cold (see what I did there?), I like cold tea...can't stand cold coffee though urgh! Glad you put the kettle on, I'll send some virtual digestives to go with that....:)

  • If they're chocolate you've got a deal. If not, I'll make them into a cheesecake with thanks :)

It does sound difficult DM. I'm sure you can manage it tho - you've been so focused. Families are a very difficult one, especially when you can see the potential for damage. But, at the end of the day, hopefully there can be a compromise that works for both of you.

Hmm...I have been told before that I can be [STRIKE]a control freak[/STRIKE] determined and focused when need be. Would hate to come across as bossy tho, so feel free to tell me to shut it if I start stamping my foot too often :)

Sending hugs - remember your virtual friends are here anytime if you need to share x

  • Hi everyone,

Been MIA for a few weeks, mostly due to extensive work commitments for a biiiiiiiig inspection coming up. On the bright side though, I wil be due some overtime for the weekends I have been working, which is nice, although I suspect most of that will be spent of the vets bill for the dental work one of our pampered pooches needs, he'll come out of the vets a gummy boy me thinks. And don't think that my lack of visits have in any way been detrimental to my resolve to clear my debts, payments are being made and the debt is reducing.
Also, on a money saving hit, Had my home insurance renewal through - nearly £400 quid they wanted, looked at a few websites and compared the cover, got it for £152 with a £50 cashback, so will only cost me £102...wahey!

Right better get back to it, lunchtime nearly up and have to get on with things, will be back soon with updates.

  • Hi everyone,

Well, I said I would be back soon, but I think a month is pushing the boundaries of acceptance :rotfl:

Anyway, at work, the inspection never happened, the auditors got themselves in a muddle and so have cancelled for approx. 6 months. On the plus side, I managed to bring home over £500 due to the amount of overtime.:j

On the negative side, pooch went into the vets and had 13 teeth out, so that goodbye to the best part of £400, and now the heater fan in the car has gone kaput . Asked the dealer on the cost for a replacement....£210 :eek: So off to search the scrappies and used parts dealers, managed to get one for £30, so fitting that is a job for Saturday me thinks.

Other than that, it's been busy busy, haven't forgotten my resolve to bust my debts, they are still on the way down, admittedly not as fast as I would have wanted, but they are progressing in the right direction.
Hope all are well and speak to you all soon,

    Hi Diary (and avid readers)

    Happy New Year!

Well, that's 2014 out of the way, my attempt at busting my debts has been somewhat successful, I managed to clear one CC, and paid BOD (Bank of Dad) back £350 of what I owe him, as well as making inroads into paying off some of the remaining CC (which reminds me, I need to update my siggie with new numbers).
December decided to throw in a headache (which wasn't Christmas), the car had it's MOT and needed some extra bits and the injectors decided to pack up, so all told had an extra £480 to pay out...good job I had started an emergency fund.

2015...Hopefully I will be making bigger inroads to clearing my debts and making sure I don't add further to the small hill that best describes the debts I have.

So, hope all are well, and here's to a happy, prosperous and debt reduced year
