Is it the Trading Standards Act 1864? :rotfl:

Maybe Emz11's friends (Graham the conservatory guy and B&Q Nigel) could confirm this for us as they both seem so au-fait with this Act.

They should be able to, they were both there when it was written.

Trading standards will check for these among many others when they do their legality checks in all retailers

I've been in retail 20 years and have never seen a Trading standards officer check this.

Has it not occurred to you that the signs are marketing displaying multiple way of paying!

It is correct that it's a legal requirement to show all method of payments a retailer takes in their store at the point of sale ie cash tills these are usually the small signs beside the tills showing visa MasterCard Amex cash ect also shown on shop windows, doors ect. Trading standards will check for these among many others when they do their legality checks in all retailers , It is not illegal however to put a a4 stating cash only if the systems are down .if anything it is good customer service putting the sigh up at the pump giving customers the choice to fill up or not, these things do happen

thank you this is the proof of the trading standards act.

i visited the shell garage yesterday and they do now accept credit and debit cards however there is no sign up stating this - violation of the act as stated above. i asked where there sign was and they informed me they do not have one. ILLEGAL. there is also no sign up advertising halal only sandwiches. you have to check the label of the sandwich to find out.

Look, love - you might have watched a couple of episodes of 'Silks' or 'Law and Order' but you still know diddly squat about retail law. smiley-rolleyes008.gif

So why did you visit the garage yesterday?
I guess you're going to say that you wanted to prove that Shell are not operating within the law.

Who do you think you are?
    Miss Marple?
    Nancy Drew?

    Good call, dealer wins.

At least you won't be likely to bump into the OP with her 'elderly' mother in tow.
