My daughter went off to get dad's and step mums for a week in the summer hols when she was about 12 and got them done.
Summer is a good time so she can leave them in.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
11, last day of primary school so she had the Summer holiday to leave them in, prior to the mandatory school removal for PE. She had always wanted them pierced, but didn't go on and on about it.
Other daughter, approaching 13, has no interest in doing the same, and never has done. Thinks earrings are pointless, as I do now. I had mine pierced young (6?) but haven't worn earrings for years.0 -
My daughter was in 6th form.
I am phobic about piercings..cringe at them..irrational on my part and no reflection on whoever has the piercings.
I know some people feel like this about eyebrow/lip/chin/tongue piercings...but for me it includes ear lobes too.
We made sure I did not pass on my feelings to our daughter, and she had her ears pierced at 17 and her tummy button at 21.
Only managed to buy her one pair of earings as a gift, and she was very proud of my bravery in choosing them.:)0 -
My mum refused to let me get my lip pierced when I was about 15
I finally rebelled at uni and got it done anyway
To be fair it made sense not to get it done as facial piercings were banned at school and work would have let me have it either
Point being though if you want something bad enough waiting for it isn't always a bad thing, I had pelenty of time to think about it!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I had mine done when I was 5. I had them done at the start of the summer holidays so they were sufficiently healed to take in and out by the time I went back in September.0

The benefits are that we never played about with them so no infections. There are a lot of judgemental people about. Chavs we are not!!! IMO it's a personal choice and you shouldn't berate people if they choose to pierce!!! I have friends who wouldn't allow their children to have it done until they were 6, 9, 15, who then got infected as they wouldn't leave them alone.
It's not the babies choice to pierce at 4 months though is it?
Babies are beautiful and innocent as they are, why ruin it with earrings that to be quite frank make a beautiful child look ugly!
I'm defiantly not against piercings, just not for babies having them:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0 -
im a 'qualified' ear piercer, using a gun. a gun is fine to be used on soft fleshy skin but never on cartilage!
i had my ears pierced when i was younger and after the first time took them out, got them redone a few years later (at about 14)
i also had the tops of my ears done, both went wrong and shattered, so now im left with 2 huge lumps in the top of my ears which look manky, i also got the little middle bit done, this got infected and i had to have my doctor cut the stud out because the skin grew over it. it was horrific. had my nose pierced too which also got infected so i took that out too.
i cannot get on with piercings in my ears or nose, they always get infected and this is a really real issue when getting piercings. ive always followed cleaning rules, had them all done in different plaes so its not because of poor hygiene in the salon.
however my tongue and belly where fine from the beginning.
i wanted to get my girls ears done as babies but my OH doesnt agree with it. so we will wait untill they start asking.
as long as YOU know the risks and know theres a possibility you will have to take over the aftercare and can let your child know that there are risks, it will sting for a little bit after.
make sure your daughter tells you if after the initial 12-24 hours if the area is very hot to touch, if its very itchy, if there is any 'leakage' from the area, or if its swollen. then you can give it a good clean and if it continues for a couple of days after really good cleaning then take the studs out.0 -
Woah, my mum had my ears pierced when I was 4 months old
Italian tradition. I will be doing the same if I ever have girls.
I had my second hole on my ears done at 15 and numerous other ear piercings when I was 170 -
I had my ears pierced at 8 which was quite late at the time, all the girls in my class must have had theirs done before they started school. Which is traditional for some.0

Hi,
I can't really understand the attitude that to pierce a baby's skin in order for her to wear earrings so very young is 'traditional' and so must be followed.
What purpose is served? Why is it traditional? When did this first start?
Without the reasoning behind it, the parent is just being mindless and not thinking things through for themselves.
