Extra Item

Hi,
I purchased 3 items of clothing. At the till one item came up at a higher price than the label. I mentioned this. The member of staff at the till checked this while I waited, they came back and notified me there was a brand discount on this item and corrected the price. I showed my student card at the start of the transaction. I checked my receipt after I left the store and noticed student discount wasn't taken off. I went back to the store and they refunded the items and put them through again, taking off the student discount. Then when I got back home I found an extra item in my bag. I assume they had some returns on their counter and put an item in my bag by mistake. Should I go back again and inform them of this and return the additional item worth £20? I'm a bit concerned upon doing this I might be seen to have been shoplifting despite it not being my fault. I never noticed them put an extra item in my bag. Any advice appreciated.

Personally I'd either keep it and donate some money to charity, or give it to a charity shop to sell.
If it was a small independent shop I'd phone them up and see what they say, as it was their mistake so should be returned at your convenience.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
If an independent shop I would have done as you suggest. It's a large highstreet store however, the same store having overcharged me in the past and refunded incorrectly on a few occasions. Never had any problems anywhere else.0

Just think how much better you'd might feel about yourself by doing the right thing. I'll let you decide what that is.0

I will send their customer services an email, I get most of my clothes from this store either online or instore. They can then advise me what to do without causing me further inconvenience.0

Why on earth would be bother fannying on contacting the shop? if you can't wear it, give it away, or give it to charity.!0

I cant believe some of the replies in this thread!
Take it back and explain what happened. The item doesn't belong to you. At the moment its a genuine mistake. Keeping the item, donating it or money to charity is no different to stealing the item originally.0 -

Why should the op spend money taking it back? It was the shops error. It must have been free if they put it in your bag...0 -

Oh, really?
If it was me, I'd chuck it in the car and deal with it when I'm near the shop anyway (assuming I have time to do it).
They've made the mistake, so whilst they'd get it back, it would be done at my convenience, not theirs.💙💛 💔0
