I called HMRC today to see if I could get an update as we had the same 'sent more infor letter' which I have done. got a very rude woman on the phone who said just wait for them to write back as she wouldn't be checking anything as there was a high volume received at the last min. I'm thinking they wouldn't be so patient if I owed them money.0

I haven't even received the standard letter.... Don't think that's a great sign. Wonder if they'll just ignore me?0

They are supposed to reply within a week. Chase them. The call centre can't tell you anything though so you have to waste time writing and re-writing.
Deadline was also a Bank Holiday Monday so they were clearly being as difficult as possible as that meant the deadline was basically several days earlier - ie the Friday.0 -
I recieved the letter from the land registry asking for SDLT number etc,
I tried to contact my conveyencing solicitor who are not in business anymore so I have hit a brick wall as it is now nearly 10 years ago,
all HMRC can advise is contact the land registry as they only keep records for 7 years.
So it looks like I cannot go any further,I dont understand why they were accepting payments for all that time when their own system says that these areas were exempt.
I hope that you all have more success that I did.

Hello,
Can anyone help - I paid stamp duty on a property which was in a disadvantaged area. I have contacted HMRC to claim a refund and have been told that as the property was purchased over two years ago that I cannot claim a refund? Has anyone else had a similar response from HMRC?
Thank you0 -

Hi there,
We have had the same response, received the letter yesterday. The tone of the letter made me suspicious, I felt that they had moved the goalposts as we never read anything about a 2 year limit after purchase.
We submitted our claim letter and have proof they received it the next day, 2nd may.
We would like to push this some more but I'm not sure what steps to take next.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Oh No ! I bought my house 2 1/2 years ago...my letter must be on the way then (but why did they ask for more information ?? and a copy of the purchase to prove that I owned the property ??)
Anyway, I have googled it, found the HMRC advice and can see nothing that mentions a time limit on claiming other than it had to be before 5th May. I shall be interested to see what my letter says when it gets here0 -
I'd better not get the same letter as they knew exactly when the property was bought before they asked for further information. I don't appreciate having my time wasted!0

Might be a good idea to take a screenshot to prove it makes no mention of any time limit.0
