Marvelous, I write rather a good post, if I say so myself, on the rather brutal nature of the internet and my throw away comment at the end on cats gets quoted.
Great example of what I mean btw.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.
(Wisdom, Courage, Self-control, Justice)
Willing acceptance - now, at this very moment - of what you can’t change0 -

guess they had to upgrade from the hamster some time0 -
I tried so hard not to get drawn in but cant help it
The last FB comp I entered went along the lines of "What gadget could you not live without" yes you have guessed it even with a question like that you get the "my dog who died five times but is as healthy as a house now which is a good job cause he does all the cooking and takes my 17 children to school (the ones I made the shoes for yadda yadda yadda. What has a family death or a redundancy got to do with the gadget you cant live without.
Just cant face anymore, and I know some have genuine stories but this was just out and out brown nosing.0 -

The internet is not brutal.
Anonymous people can be idiots.
And the day I got a FB friend request from the dead child of IRL friends, is the day I decided that cute cats win.0 -
I didn't feel anyone was mocking the IVF itself or a deceased baby per se; I think some were just commenting on the fact that it seems a bizarre way to attempt to win a competition (often for something totally unrelated), by using heartache, loss and pain. But, equally, there are those who cannot afford IVF or a child's headstone in any other way, and they are thus 'forced' into finding novel ways to fund such things.
My mocking was more related to the lady with the potatoes. I don't think the poster designed that to be a heart-wrenching story, but it was somewhat amusing. It wasn't anything to do with pain, death, poverty, or any of the things that others use as their stories for these types of competitions.
I do 'use' my depression to some extent: I never lie, but I'm honest. If a certain prize (e.g. self help book for mental illness) would genuinely help me, I say it. I believe that if, as one tiny human person, in this internet universe of cats, I can encourage someone else (human or feline) to be open about their own mental health by seeing my post on a competition, that's a win in itself.
I don't say it to win a prize, I don't feel the need to go over the top with it, and I only say it where relevant, but I do say it. I don't think that pulls me into the group of people we're talking about though...
And if it does, well, who cares?!
Incidentally, I think it's very cool you named your little one Jessica, Toniq, best name in the world0 -

I saw the same comment posted a couple of times on competitions to win £100 etc. I'm pretty sure they were random draws too, so no need to mention it at all. The fact that it was unnecessary to make it public was what shocked me at the time.
The comp today for the vouchers was also a random draw, so why on earth mention heart transplants/surrogacy/IVF? You could just have said "my best freebie was a spray from a perfume counter".
It annoys people when others use emotional blackmail to try to win a potato masher - and they do!
Once you put something in the public domain, you have no control over it. So anything you don't want mentioning again, you keep to yourself - it's not rocket science.
Good post
I think there are people who believe that because a company is giving something away the company is being benevolent, therefore because it's a charitable offer, the prize should go to the most deserving person.
I've noticed that people often think this way towards comping, and it is what lies behind a whole host of bad attitudes and nastiness toward winners of competitions. " how dare that person enter to win a push chair when they don't have children".
People really need to stop and think like an ad executive before posting this sycophantic nonsense. It won't win them anything, judged or random draw. advertisers like normal believable nice stories, like the woman cooking her first Christmas dinner with no potatoes until a good Samaritan comes to the rescueshe would have had a good chance of winning, if the comp had been a judged one.
The sycophants can kiss my bum0 -
Lol funny post, as you know i hate the beggar comments..
Like the few people - regular fb compers (whose name you see on every post)
a couple in particular, 1 person says about his daughter having a baby - funny thing is person has no children, or the others who are always saying '''dream prize''' (i just hope i dont ***accidentally*** link their page to the company showing that they are lying and have won mobiles/ipad or have no children;) ooops i tend to do that quite alot, and had many nice thank you emails and even some vouchers & a gift card of 2 companies for bringing it to their attention)
Also like the 60+ comps i knew for a fact a certain person who was entering wasnt 60 and was single, oops email sent again, and fantastic email recvd back from them oh and the 'wedding comps' same thing and email recvd back.
I love it now though because these folk still enter not knowing that they will never win in a million years as the companies involved are aware:rotfl::rotfl:Still comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -
