After years of having a slate floor which would only ever come clean by getting on my hand and knees and using a scrubbing brush, I've now got porcelain which come up a treat with a mop and a dash of flash

Did you think the steam mop wasn't much good on carpets Irish Rose12?

For me personally no. I tried it a few times on the carpets thinking it would take time and perseverance and it wouldn't work wonders after one try lol. But after a few tries it still made no difference IMO. I've tried a few other things for my carpets with no success either. Just bought a bottle of Stardrops today to see how it goes lol.

Others might have other opinions though.

I used too but since getting my X5 steam cleaner for my birthday I have ditched the mop and bucket.

I have all hard floors, only carpet is stairs and top landing so for me its a godsend.
Dries quickly, cleans well and is quick to use.

I tried a mop and bucket but found it just glides over the surface and doesn't clean in the corners properly. I make floor cloths out of old flannelette sheets or towels. Hot water with a splash of wash up liquid, and down on my hands and knees. I like to get close up to the job and make sure the floor is sparkly clean.

For more than 30 years I have used a large floor cloth and a European style 'aftrekker' literally a large squeezgee on a long handle.
It's ideal for floor cleaning and very economical.
Using a bucket of water with Stardrops cleaner, wet the floor cloth in the bucket, wring it out and just wrap it around the squeeze. Easy, very cheap and very easy to use.
Note Stardrops all purpose cleaner is much cheaper than anything else and it's really good, doesn't leave marks either.:j:j

I find hand and knees gets best results - right into the corners, but it's getting a bit tricky to get up again so may have to buy a mop. Bit of bleach in the used washing up water in the sink. Means the sink & pipes get a clean as well.

I used to use a mop and bucket when I had a big kitchen but now live in a smaller house so it is down on my hands and knees. Always did the bathrooms on my knees as easier to get around pipes and sinks. I have a steam mop and use it occasionally when I have time.

I definitely use a mop and bucket except for the floor in the smallest room when I get down on my hands and knees. I too prefer old style.:rotfl:
