I have never had a problem with PC World myself.

I do go shopping for electronics myself ( OH Hates shopping) and go in with a predetermined idea of what I want. However I often come out with something better/different, but I have made the decision no one else. I will listen to advice, I am not super savvy on PC's.

I am 48, does that make me senile? It is similar to letting a child do something for the first time on their own. You let your father go out to buy a PC and he chose differently and agreed to all the extras? He may be happy with his choice, but is afraid that you are mad with it. Have you thought of that?

Pc world have done nothing wrong, he bought a product and was happy with it, it's not the dad whos rocking the boat and we have no idea how all this went down.

The thread is derailed and everybody is guessing as to what happened, bordering on malicious.

Typical for the OP to now say go to pc world see what you want, waste everybody's time then I will get it cheaper on line, well it's done, live with it.

You don't know whether my dad is annoyed or not as that hasn't been stated so you're just adding to the assumption. At no point did I say go to PC World to waste anyone's time. Even then I'm not sure how it's a waste to go down there and have a look.

Oh and he is living with it. We know there's no chance at a refund but I think they should tell people once they install software etc. then the T+Cs are voided so there is no right to return. That was not made clear to him.

There is no automatic right to return any item for being unwanted whether it is opened or not. It is down to the stores own policies and they can pretty much add whatever terms they want.

As long as their terms are made clear that opened items can't be returned for change of mind then they have done nothing wrong. How did your dad think they would set up his laptop and install software without opening it?

Well done you for not having a problem.

Have you thought that maybe he is not happy about being sold items that he didn't realise he didn't need because he felt badgered and pressured? Have you thought you don't actual know the whole situation?

I don't know if you're senile. You very well could be and not yet realise it. I won't make the assumption either way without having any further information on you. My father could be going senile - how do YOU know he isn't?

    Is your life that empty?

    My sympathies...

    Apparently so.

I need no sympathies from people such as yourself as I think you need them more but thanks all the same.

Anyway enjoy the rest of your assuming/trashing/trolling etc. I've got my answers and suggestions from people (thanks to those) so I shall be moving on.

Thanks for showing me why it's not worth arguing with a troll or with those who have nothing better to do with their lives than argue against a point that hasn't been made. I've always wondered what it's like and I do hope you find some higher purpose for your lives.

I don't think I am senile enough to take your words of what actually happened as Gospel.

If you wanted to take over buying the computer for your Dad, why didn't you buy it for him? Your Father has his own mind, can make decisions on what he wants, just beacause you may be a little more savvy on things technological, then you, IMO are taking the higher ground and belittling him in his choices. Your Father has a mouth, it is there to be used. I stand by what I said, in that if your father was happy enough to pay for what he has bought, then it is HIS decision, not yours.

I may be slightly senile, but it hasn't stopped me running a quite successful business for over 20 years, with lots of happy customers. The Majority of consumers are quite happy buying from PC World, it is only the minority, who come on sites like this and try to slag them off. Mainly when they themselves have chosen incorrectly, but seem to think it is fine and dandy to blame other people.

Lay off PC World, Lay off your Father and let him enjoy his new toy in peace,, without worrying all the time, that he has made a big mistake, going out and buying it himself. IMO you seem to be the type of child, who wants to dictate what their parents do or say to the extreme. Have had them in my shop before and have always told them'' Who's buying it, who is going to live with it?'' It's not them, so they shouldn't have a say in what they buy !

I hear you, unfortunately keyboard warriors exist on a diet of "yeah-but-yeah-but-yeah-buts", they're usually facetious and generally unhelpful. More power to you, pity the fools, I think they're in need of a hug (and a breath of fresh air).

I am reasonably PC savvy and have used PC world on numerous occasions when I needed something then and now, experiences there have been like most retailers, a mixed bag, sometimes the assistants were there to help without trying to push you into something you didn't want/need, other assistants were very pushy and would try to tell you you needed load of other things.

I did find it humorous at times some of the nonsense I was being told to try and get me to buy something or overheard assistants telling other customers nonsense, I did quietly intervene one time when I saw a older gentleman who you could see was completely baffled by the assistant who was basically selling him a very expensive games machine when he really only wanted to use a word processor and send some email (I spoke to the gentleman when the assistant went to fetch something)

As I say, I have found some very good assistants in PC world who dont want to "oversell" you something you dont need, but I can understand how folk who are not PC savvy can be taken to the cleaners by some sales assistants.
