Returning Laptop to PC World when given without a box

My dad, who is 65, bought a laptop today. I told him to buy a specific brand and type of laptop.

He went into PC World and the salesman managed to convince him he needed a laptop with Cloud, the new Microsoft Office (for £160) and all the other fancy stuff. He doesn't need this stuff and they took advantage of him. Instead of paying the £280 he paid over £500

They gave him the laptop in a brand new bag so no box.

Can he return the laptop even though there was no box therefore it cannot be returned unopened and they already installed Office?

As it was an in store sale there is no right to return.

Their T&C's will be no good now as they set everything up for him so there isn't much hope.

Do you always patronise your father.

Surely your father is capable of making decisions on his own.

He has no right return it unless it's faulty. He may be able to appeal to their generosity to return the laptop for a degree of a refund/exchange, but it's up to them. But even then, he's decided to buy office, and it's been installed. the license has been used, so it is not possible to "return" it as he will still has access to the product.

Although it's not what you want to hear, they have provided what he chose to buy.

Whether I patronise him or if he is capable of making his own decisions is not relevant to my question.

Thanks others who did answer my actual question.

    Totally agree.

If you can prove that he was taken advantage of I would consider approaching the store manager about it.

Those souls who trust PC World to be honest don't realise the 'oh we'll set that up for you' 'configure this for you, itll be easy blah blah' are actually removing rights - quite sneaky.

If my offspring thought I was doolally at 65, I wouldn't be too pleased. He made the choice let him spend in haste and repent at leisure.

Should you have gone with him?
  • Wow and this "elderly" gentleman managed to find his own way to the shop - be it on a bus or in a car - at that age is he even safe to drive....

Good grief - he is only 65. A man of 65 is entirely capable of making his own decisions.

Perhaps if HE wants to return it he should be making the enquiries himself. Otherwise as above, leave him to it. It is his money...

The way I read it, the OP's father wanted advice on what laptop to buy and was sold a completely different product with items not needed.

So would you not help your father with an issue if they had it? Your parents are so lucky to have you :T
