What kind of job was it? As I said earlier there seems to be a split, low paid unskilled work you seem to be better being unemployed, skilled/professional roles better of being in a job0 -

so they want someone who is either prepared to walk out on their present employer without giving notice or who has left a similar role within the last 3 months and is available to start immediately. Sounds like a bit of a tall order!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

Its not uncommon in a lot of sectors to have a 1 week notice period. I have advertised positions for immediate start before but I wouldn't have expected someone to walk out of their job without notice, so I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Notice periods would be discussed at interview.
Immediate start is surely just a way of saying ASAP, rather than recruiting for a position you know you're going to need in a few months.
I've definitely never had pressure from a new employer not to serve my full notice period. Nor would I put that pressure on someone else.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

There are loads of immediate start jobs out there yet seem to really turn down people who can start yesterday! We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
