How is it easier to get a job when you already have one?

Its not uncommon in a lot of sectors to have a 1 week notice period. I have advertised positions for immediate start before but I wouldn't have expected someone to walk out of their job without notice, so I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Notice periods would be discussed at interview.
Immediate start is surely just a way of saying ASAP, rather than recruiting for a position you know you're going to need in a few months.
I've definitely never had pressure from a new employer not to serve my full notice period. Nor would I put that pressure on someone else.
This job is to start on Monday as it says that too. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Even those who are happy to take 'any old job' can struggle to get it, due to so many chasing the same job. Or to lack of experience. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

It can be better to be unemployed especially in unskilled jobs. I'm currently working in a warehouse as a picker while I carry on applying for something I actually want to do and I basically got that job because I was unemployed.
The agency was only putting through people who'd been unemployed for 6 months as they could get some sort of fee for taking us on. They even made me wait a week and a half to start as I hadn't been out of work for a full 6 months at interview.0 -
I know you're talking about the overqualified/over experienced. I meant if there's say a job waitressing or whatever, if you've never done that sort of work before, they'll take someone else who has that experience.

In N.I companies can get a grant for taking on someone who has been unemployed. How can I compete against the likes of that?0
