In N.I companies can get a grant for taking on someone who has been unemployed. How can I compete against the likes of that?

You can't really, I bet its a nice little earner for some companies/agencies. I couldn't get an interview for even a basic warehouse job then suddenly as I approached 6 months unemployed I had 2 to choose from including one agency who didn't even bother returning my calls/e-mails 2 months earlier.

I was. It probably also explains my lack of success getting anywhere now.

So saying employers get a grant of they take you on makes no sense or you would have been taken on sooner, no?

I was unemployed for 3 months which is fairly good, I've been trying to escape for 2 years unsuccessfully.

Form your posts on here at the time I assumed you were out of work longer as they were sounding very desperate.

Just keep looking I say it's easier to get a job with one as I looked back at some old emails from 7 years ago where agencies were begging me to go to see copanies. The same ones who want nothing to do with me now and I will remember them.

I was on the Currys careers website this evening and they ask a few basic questions, about availability, flexibility, and all that sort of stuff. They have another question which asks if you are returning to work. When I saw that question, it made me think, so I logged into the site again with a different email and ticked the box for returning to work.

If you tick the box to say that you're working, it gives a green dot with a tick and 'good' written beside it, but if you say you're not working it gives an amber dot.

The amber light prob means it's not ideal but they may consider non working people.

So. What was I saying about blind prejudice? There's no reason at all for someone unemployed to get almost a black mark just for being unemployed.

But it shouldn't be 'not ideal'. That's why some people are trapped in the cycle of being unemployed. Even if their cv and cover letter is done right, the only 'fault' is being out of work 'too long'.
