  • My renewal was done over the phone, over 8 weeks, on the day my renewal pack arrived. I'm still waiting for it to be finalised. Is it worth phoning, or will it not make a difference to the length of time it takes?

My children return to school tomorrow, and I've already missed out on their uniform grant, because I cannot produce my finalised tax credit award. I'm feeling particularly poor, and quite peeved about it all just now! I had expected it to take longer, as I am now self employed, but I honestly expected that it would be finalised by now.

Do you get an award notice through the post before the payments change or stop?
Payment didnt go in today - renewed in june - but i havnt heard anything from tax credits? Not sure whether to ring them or wait for an award notice to see whats going on? :)
  • Hi I wonder if anyone could answer me if anybody knows if I am possibly due a payment. I made a joint claim for child and working tax in march I gave then a figure of 12000from partners accounts and they awarded it payment have gone slightly lower since April I gave renewal in 6 weeks ago and partner only earned 90000 does this mean our tax credits go up ? It's so confusing :/
  • 9275.00 is exact 13/14 income provisional payments have figures of 12450.00 12/13 income was 11600.00 can you make any sense of that
  • hi need some advice about my renewal. i did mine over the phone on 23/6/14. called today to be told i was sent a letter on the 12/8/14 about my earnings but i did not earn anything. the letter has to be back to them by 11/9/14 i havent received it yet :(
i started my MATERNITY ALLOWANCE on 8/2/13 to 7/11/2013.
i had arranged with my boss that i would not return after my maternity. i worked 16hrs.
my partner lost his job in august 2013.
he was on jobseekers contribution while i was on Maternity.
I was then added on to the jobseekers claim when my maternity ended.
i had ZERO earnings for 2013-2014.
my partner earned £5867 from employment.
our p45 from jobseekers has £3143.70 in contribution based jobseekers.
i told tax credits about every change we had.
    our earning from 2012 - 2013 were £18840.
i had award notices through the year with potential payment on them.
everytime i ask about these i cannot get a straight answer.
anybody know what could be happening.
    thanks :o:o:o
  • thanks blondebubbles.

I just looked at my award notice (which is based on an incorrect income figure, but that's irrelevant to the question) and it makes no mention of the £5,000 disregard, just quoting the actual figure they have (which is greater than £5,000 more than last year's) and an award based on that. Is this normal? I would expect them to say income x, disregard £5,000 and then an award based on x-£5,000. How on earth are we mere mortals meant to check these figures?

They usually have a section that says income used in the calculation or something similar.
No, nothing like that - just the full figure with no deductions, which is over £8,000 higher than the previous year's, which also appears.

To work out the income it's based on, add the "reduction due to your income" amounts for WTC and CTC, divide by 0.41, and add 6420. That's the income the award is based on! (unless the award is zero, or CTC only)

Is it the award for this year or last?

If you haven't got it in a few days I'd chase them - they seem to be finalising awards based on P60's etc totally ignoring the figures people quote on their renewals, and then giving you 30 days to prove your figures were correct.

As they send everything second class and it's peak holiday season I can see this causing serious problems for some...
