What a quite inane response to a serious discussion.

No more inane as your own response to breastfeeding really.

I'm so glad you italicised the word 'imagine' and then admitted it's your ASSUMPTION.
    Incorrect assumption I'm afraid.
What 'bothers' me is what is actually on view.
I agree wholeheartedly that many breast feeding mums do so in a modest and unobtrusive way.
HOWEVER.... there are also those that don't. Those that seem to have the opinion that 'it's natural' so no-one should complain.
It's 'natural' to go to the toilet but I certainly wouldn't do that in public.
It's natural to make love but I certainly wouldn't do that in public either etc etc.
We seem to be forgetting the 'rights' of those who hold a contrary point of view.
Of course it is not ok for a mum to have to feed her baby in a toilet. But nor do I want to see it in public.
    End of.

So you agree that some Mums breast feed in a 'modest and unobtrusive way' but you still object STRONGLY to it happening.
    WOW! smiley-rolleyes008.gif
I realise it will not be a popular view but I'm afraid I object STRONGLY to a female breast feeding in public.
I never found the need to do so in my own turn, some years ago and certainly do NOT want to witness someone else doing so.
I appreciate modesty has gone out of the window these days but I would be the one complaining if forced to witness this when trying to have a peaceful cuppa.
(stands back and waits for the righteously indignant to deny me the right to MY opinion).

Don't be so dramatic about 'witnessing' it. :rotfl:

Don't you just love it when someone puts
    End of
at the end of a post because you just know it's not going to be the end of it. :rotfl:

Have only skim read a few pages as there are so many of them.

It happened in M&S but that is no need to pillory M&S a fine British Business. It could equally have happened anywhere.

Now then not being a father or being married, I have had my fair share of experiencing womens breasts and wonderful things they are too.

I do think there is a breast feeding militia out there. Someone mentioned flash mob protesting of breastfeeders...

Aside from that I have no issues with discreet BF in public places and i suspect most mums will use some kind of courtesy drape.

We must remember that aside from mammary nutrition, breasts are also objects of sexual desire.

I dont want to see women flopping their breasts out in public unless they wish me to admire them. Sure breast feed if you have to but do it discretely.

    .

No I didn't. I didn't suggest anything like it being a protest! Just a way to show that particular cafe that asking someone to breastfeeding in the toilet isn't acceptable. I doubt very much that they would attempt to move a dozen or more feeding mothers!!!

I have no issue with people breastfeeding in public, but what's not clear in the story is that the woman was actually shopping in the cafe (it sounded to me like she shopped in the clothes store then wanted to use the cafe without buying anything there) or just wanted to use it as a baby feeding area? Its not a public service the cafe has to provide, if she's not buying food or drinks there, why should she get to sit there? The cafe could, quite rightly imo, prefer to reserve the tables for paying customers!

According to one of the OP's posts:
    Doc_N wrote: »
The sole reason for asking this young woman to leave was that she was breast feeding her baby. My wife discussed it fully with her, and there was no other reason. My wife, who fully understands this sort of situation from personal experience, suggested that she should complain to the store manager, but the mother did not want the confrontation that that would bring. She just wanted to be able to sit with a drink in the cafe and feed her baby at the same time and was upset that she'd been asked to leave for no other reason than that she was feeding her baby.

Someone above could not understand why anyone would put up with this without complaining (my wife and daughter certainly wouldn't have) but not all young mothers have the stomach for that sort of confrontation, and this one didn't. I think she should have complained, but it was her right not to, and entirely her decision.

Of course, only the woman who was breastfeeding knows what the situation was and what was said to her by M&S staff.
She may or may not have purchased drinks/food in the caf!.

    Anything else is just hearsay.
We don't even know if the woman told the OP's wife the whole truth.

Well if you know when the breast feeding militia are next coming to Manchester, do let me know and I'll be sure to come and ogle them.

It's natural to make love but I certainly wouldn't do that in public either etc etc.

This is one of the ridiculous points dragged out every time there is a debate on breastfeeding.

Of course these things are natural and they are also unacceptable (and illegal) in public.

However, my baby is eating. When eating becomes illegal in public perhaps we can insist that babies also abide by this rule!

I can't imagine what flossy_splodge's reaction would be if this woman started breastfeeding her 5 year old in public.
