  • I think it did happen but I bet my bottom dollar there is more to the story such as the woman not buying food in the cafe but using their facilities.

Why not say which store it was?

Its open to so much interpretation. How did the conversation start?

OPs Wife: Why are you feeding your baby in a toilet (bit odd for an opener, but not sure how else it cropped up)

BF Lady: They wouldnt let me feed in the cafe. (why?)
Could be for many reasons, not buying food being a popular one.

I do not believe for one second the lady said 'I had bought my food in the cafe but a staff member came and said I would like you to leave the cafe and go to the toilets to breast feed as breastfeeding is not allowed in this cafe. Goodbye.'

    I give up. :wall:

To those who choose (for whatever reason) to believe that this didn't happen, or that if it did it was really the fault of the young mother, rather than the M&S employee - fine. You carry on thinking that, if it makes you feel better.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but in this instance the individual in question is accusing me of having some ulterior motive for making a perfectly straightforward post about M&S. And given that I don't have one, and that the accusation has no basis whatever, I have to wonder whether the individual in question does himself have a motive for constantly trying to defend M&S against the indefensible!

I think that the majority of people find the whole tale a bit suspicious.

I could quite well believe that something like this could happen at any cafe.

I think your problem is that you over-egged the custard.

In your determination to show M&S in the worst possible light you decided that your 'victim' had suffered this illegal discrimination on at least one other occasion.

This moved the incident from a believable possibility involving an under-trained staff member reacting incorrectly to something that would that implied some sort of continuing policy at this still anonymous store. (Since you won't name it no one can check one way or the other.)

If this is happening as often as your story would make it appear it must be happening we then begin to ask ourselves how the hell M&S are managing to get a way with flouting the law in this way without attracting a lot of unwanted attention form posters on places such as here and mumsnet and from local and national news.

And the answer is, of course, that the couldn't. They would be being pilloried!

(I don't have any problem at all. Why would I? It's you that seems to have a problem.)

(Your problem surfaces again. I decided nothing - I merely reported what she said. If you choose to think it was made up, that's your problem.)

No, you reported what your wife said as you can't report what was said in the cafe or store as you were not there.

Your wife met someone in a lav. in M&S who told her a story that has been passed on to you...but you refuse to disclose the location in case it causes an unknown person to be embarrassed

I suggest you get yourself tested.

You only have to read the thread.
(I don't have any problem at all. Why would I? It's you that seems to have a problem.)

You do have a problem. You posted a story and people are having trouble believing it.
(Your problem surfaces again. I decided nothing - I merely reported what she said.

You report is hearsay of hearsay of something that does not really add up and as such is virtually worthless.
If you choose to think it was made up, that's your problem.)

    Why is it a problem?

Plenty of fiction on the net.

I can't see how not believing a tall tale is in any way a problem to me.

No - it's not in any way a problem for me if you and one or two other people choose (for whatever reason - and I doubt your motives every bit as much as you doubt mine) to believe that M&S can do no wrong and that the story has been manufactured.

You haven't managed to give any possible reasonable motive for anyone (me, the wife or the young woman) wanting to make the story up - because there isn't one. Why would anyone bother to do it?

Still, you go on sticking to your delusions. I'll demonstrate how much it bothers me by treating all of your future posts with the derision which they deserve, and this will be the last time I waste any time on replying to your rabid posts. Think what you like - chant 'It didn't happen, it didn't happen, it didn't happen....." till you're blue in the face. If that helps you, fine. :)

I don't find your account in any way credible. Your account is third hand and you refuse to identify the M&S store. Please put up or....?
