Zone Alarm is very good, never liked Norton. Just a shame that the bug is now affecting me.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Neither the download manager that allows the rogue program in if you let it or don't notice nor the dialler in Windows are blocked by Zone Alarm which as you say blocks new programs accessing the internet, not the abuse of existing ones. It is not in charge of the actual connection, rogue diallers and other trojans.

And this remark about Zone Alarm is completely untrue.
Nope. Never seen it. Sorry. Mine's the paid for version though and they might not update the freebie quite so often maybe?
When the free version is updated, the chance of a trial of Pro is offered, which does not involve a new download. If you knew something about it fine, but don't dress up guesswork as fact in order to tell us yours is better.

But we're getting rather off the track of the thread

    The question is untrue?

Still leaves me with my question from much earlier...

With Zone Alarm and Ad-Watch on board and kept up to date - can I be infected via my old modem if the only software that is configured to use it is my fax software? This is what I'd like to know please.

Then ask it on the Techie Board. You seem to be confusing phone connection with internet connection.

Zone Alarm has no control over the abuse of permission-holding programs ie when the dialler rings out, ZA does not know the phone number; it is monitoring a Windows process. The rogue dialler program is not a new program asking for internet access; it is merely a script to alter the default number in the existing one.

It would be much more common that this dialler abuse is for internet access, but I would not be surprised if some can get into your fax software. However, I do not know this, and you should ask it on the Tech Board, rather than rely on my or your guesswork.
