I live in a row of 8 Semis with equally small gardens.
3 of the Homeowners (including myself) live alone and have 4 wheelie bins each!
Red, green, brown and grey.
As the gardens are small it is impossible to hide them.
Surely there is a better way for single households.:(

Yes, these rules etc are decided by people with families, who live in bigger houses, with enough outside space.0

Separating my rubbish makes me mad. I'm pretty sure it all ends up on a container ship to China to go in landfill, anyway."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

In our area they are starting to introduce these, I think its only to save money.0

At the moment i've got 4 wheelie of my own but the people next door have got their house up for sale and don't want any clutter so i've also got 5 of their wheelie bins on my path as well.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Could you ask for the half size bins? What are these bins for?0

We have small size wheelies, we also have extra large wheelies.
You've just got to ask for whatever best suits your lifestyle.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

No small bins in Preston.
I asked some time ago but will check again.0 -
In Belfast only pensioners got the smaller wheelie bins. In fact last year the council came round and replaced all the smaller blue recycling bins with the larger ones. We have three wheelie bins black household, blue recycling, brown garden and then the large purple box for glass jars and bottles.0

My previous council stopped doing the smaller size bins. I had 2 small ones (general rubbish (grey) and garden waste (green) but when they introduced a third one (plastic bottles and cardboard) there was on option to have a smaller bin or a box. No explanation as to why they thought a 240l bin was needed for cardboard and plastic bottles, either. We also had black recycling boxes for paper, glass and tins.
New place is much more civilized. One wheelie bin for normal rubbish, plus green box for paper and glass, black box for cardboard, tins and plastic, and a brown caddy for food waste.
And unlike the previous house, where there was no option but to leave all the bins on the pavement at all times as we had no front gardens, I do now have space to keep the bins out of sight!
I don't think the councils really consider the issue of smaller households, or properties with limited space. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
