Like it's optional to sign up for a different card or loan so how does this differ??

So it's not improper practice to only supply a membership to a service unless you buy a insurance policy off them also?
Its all inclusive price, its included in the £14.99 its not an optional extra but part of the subscription, this is fine.
The Exact same notions of ethics are applied to cards or PPI claims when everyone (whether they admit to it or not for claims purposes) knew what they were buying into so why not here?
Again this is not PPI, its not sold the same way, its not covering the same things, complaints are not assessed in the same way, its just nothing to do with it.

Stop comparing it to things as this is where the confusion lies. It's part of a subscription.

    No.

If its part of the price for their services then its your choice to buy it or not.

Its perhaps cheeky but it clearly says it on the website which is key here.

They can "do business" however they please (within the law), but this is not mis-selling and you have a choice to take your custom elsewhere.

I did wonder why my husband only has to pay £9.99 amonth for his membership of Credit Expert, yet they want to charge me £14.99. There was no mention of identity insurance when they asked me to join.

Its all inclusive price. Its included in the £14.99 and not an optional extra, now part of the subscription. It's certainly listed as one of the "benefits" of membership.
    No mis-selling has taken place.

According to a well respected, radio money programme, this is unasked for insurance and untested when new customers sign up for its suitability.
