Something I read earlier - it's not a diet book

After World War 2 nutritionists visited Crete to ascertain what physical deprivations and long term damage had been endured during the years of occupation, but to their astonishment they found that the Cretans were in excellent physical condition. After research, it was concluded that the diet the islanders had been living on for the past three to four millennia was the healthiest in the world. The life expectancy was well into theeighties, with many of the community reaching over a hundred. Today, the Mediterranean diet is feted the world over. Its basis is olive oil, fish, fresh vegetables and salads. The tragedy is that since tourism came to Crete, the islanders have changed their eating habits. To please the foreigners traisping in and it every summer, they started to serve French fries, sweet fizzy drinks, fast foods and over the last two decades the life expectancy of the average Cretan has dropped by 30 per cent. Obesity has become a national problem for the first time in their history.

I am trying to lose weight. I usually end up with some ridiculous calorie deficit if I exercise. Don't fancy eating much after exercising.

    Another question from me

Is is better to eat before exercise or after? I don't like eating before as I don't like the feeling of being full before exercise :o plus I read somewhere if you don't eat before your body has to use the stored fat, but then I also read it's better to eat before so I'm confused

Yuk, I can imagine the sort! The Co-op ones really are very good indeed. Think there's about 4 or 5 varieties and all are equally as tasty.

This is the ham and mushroom one. I usually eat a quarter of it with some salad.

Pizzas like that are lovely but they are big, bigger than the ones I get

When it comes to pizza, since becoming pescetarian it's with a cheese one or the iceland tuna one, I don't like veg on a pizza

I only have cereal or a banana before exercise. Anything more and I feel sluggish and get really bad stomach ache.

You need to eat after, something to do with muscle repair, I do believe.

    Correlation is not necessarily cause.
You are assuming their lifespan is controlled solely by what they eat.
I think there is come controversy concerning the diet and it's benefits.
I think they did some study and the results did not turn out as they expected and then it got a whole lot more complicated,
I will have to see if I can find a link about it.

This is a youtube video which questions the diet ?v=cktwDEXJjvs

Anyhow when you look into it it all gets rather complicated, I saw another video about a vegetarian diet that was very complicated too.

We see so many changing stories about the benefits of certain foods it's probably best to ignore most of them, apart from avoiding too much processed foods and having a sensible balance.

Protein after, or the bulk of the meal protein is recommended.

This is the video I was thinking of earlier v=q7KeRwdIH04

It gets kind of complicated but points out a lot of other interesting stuff about olive oil.

Basically it is about people on a vegan diet (supposedly healthy like the Mediterranean diet) died early.

Here is another "Olive Oil Is Not Healthy" ?v=OGGQxJLuVjg

What seem to be the cases is that whatever is considered to be healthy diet turn out to be a killer 20 years down the line, or at least no better than anything else. ( Hence the need for yet another fad diet).

What is the latest Fad diet? the 5:2 or something like that?

I have lost count of the number of miracle diets I have seem.

Pretty much any diet will work initially hence they all sell, however nobody can maintain them so it's on to the latest diet miracle diet fad.
