Typical daily meals for me...
Breakfast: Smoked Salmon Fillet w/ grilled tomatoes, mushrooms & spinach
Lunch: Avocado & Egg on a toasted ciabatta roll

Have you tried watching Secret Eaters? It's overly sensationalistic, and some of the dietary advice is a bit dubious, but I think if you need a kick up the bum to make some changes then the show can be a bit of an eye-opener over the way we kid ourselves with how much we actually eat.0

Good looking food.
It has always been carbs that did for me. There is nothing more perfect than a bowl of basmati rice. Or pasta with chorizo and sprouting broccoli.
I cut these out in January 2013. Started eating bacon & eggs for breakfast every day, maybe some chicken breast for lunch. No carbs in the evening either and a smaller portion (but still curry, stir fry - loads of flavour).
I got bored with the bacon and eggs after a couple of months. Switched to tom yum soup for breakfast with loads of veg and chicken or beef. Ditched lunch (it's overrated).
Back on bacon & eggs now, but only if I'm hungry in the morning. Back on lunch as well, but chicken breast.
2 important lessons for me: If I get bored with the food I eat change it. Bacon & eggs for breakfast is lovely, but after two months it gets boring. So I adapt.
Also, in the 15 months since I changed the way I eat I have not deprived myself. Have had fish and chips about 12 times. 2 curries out (with rice). Roast potatoes every couple of weeks. Quite a bit of cake (home baked). cut down my drinking significantly (but sometimes binge) and loads of chocolate. And the odd bowl of perfect basmati. Were I to just decide to cut all of this out completely I would fail, and feel a failure.
As I've said the wardrobe cull is ecstasy. But also I no longer snore, I sleep better, feel better. I haven't felt the need for an indigestion tablet in 15 months and I used to get through half a packet a day. I'm convinced that my acid indigestion was through rice/pasta/potatoes.0 -
Hunger makes me eat
no offence but from the sounds of it, its boredom eating not hunger.
I am surprised that you cant tell the difference between real hunger and being bored/need something to pick at after doing the 5:2. That is one thing that its taught me - when to recognise i am TRULY hungry.

Yesterday i had:
Breakfast - 35g Dorset cereal museli (as it was on offer in B & M) with semi skimmed milk , and a few extra seeds in (maybe around 5g worth?)
Snack - apple pack from co op
Lunch - Whole wheat turkey meatball wrap - contained turkey meatballs made with turkey mince. HM tomato relish - tin of toms cooked down with herbs, shredded carrot and spinach. Banana & also a yoghurt (activia - not low fat )
snack - nothing as the wrap filled me up
Dinner - Chicken lentil dahl
Later on - snack pack of fish n chips crisps, ryvita x 3 with low fat cream cheese
Today i am having
Breakfast - one slice of seeded wholemeal toast with low fat spread
Lunch - Co Op - Lebanese chicken salad - contains peppers, hummous (full fat ), chickpeas (proper chick peas) , lentils, bulgur wheat, beetroot and chicken breast. Cant wait to eat it as its NOMS!!!! followed by innocent smoothie (strawberry one) and a mini rocky road bite - it was a meal deal
Dinner - Salmon with chinese flavoured rice, and a load of broccoli on the side.
snacks - not sure yet tbh.. probably another pack of the fish n chip crisps. Have some chicken in the fridge so will prob eat some of that if i need too.

If you get a chance watch it, it was surprising
The low fat twin not only performed better physically but mentally, he was more alert and although he could eat more than the ow fat twin he still lost weight
The low carb twin lost the most weight but it was mostly muscle and he was very close to becoming diabetic
I don't want you to think I'm throwing your advice back in your face because I'm not, I appreciate it it's just I will never be a low carb person
Ah but Tink2 the end point of the show was that the fat/sugar optimum combo was the damaging thing, it stopped you knowing when to stop. Look at your sugar intake does it mix with fats?
As for the feeling dizzy I've had the exact thing as well and I always said I need to eat because...... But when you reduce your processed sugar intake to the minimum you will get dizzy and probably feel sick for a day or 2 and then you will be fine. I used to insist I had to eat every couple of hours or I'll feel ill but once you get the processed sugar down you will start to feel better and not get hungry so regularly. The only thing is you do need to go through a couple of days of pain to achieve this.

Sorry to hijack, quick question for the knowledgable amongst us, is porridge (plain) a healthy option for breakfast? I was eating cereal but when I saw how much sugar was in it decided to switch to porridge, plus it fills me up more, just wanting to know if it's a good option?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. There is also the all important body-clock (more precisely, the circadian rhythm or clock), which is ruled by daylight. We are meant to sleep at night and be awake during the day (the occasional daytime nap doesn't hurt).
You, Tink, do the opposite: stay awake at night and sleep during the day, by your admission elsewhere. This is not good as it does affect metabolism.
In short, your habits seems designed to support anything but a healthy lifestyle, and all your pains and aches sound just like general body inflammation which too much refined carbs, screwed up sleep patterns and lack of minerals/vitamins and other micronutrients help maintain.
EDIT - overweight is a natural byproduct of this lifestyle coupled with no exercise to speak of. Eating less of the same carp, keeping the same weird hours and not moving about will take muscle and even bone out of your body, but NOT fat, which is the easiest thing for your body to make and store.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
