Hello islandhoppa, thanks for dropping by.
I read your post with interest, especially about the hearing aid. I remember reading somewhere else about the over amplification, where someone said that a running tap sounded like a waterfall! It must have been difficult to deal with a hearing loss at a young age - but I think we adapt remarkably well
I must admit I was horrified by the look of the hearing aid that I was shown. I've got nothing against wearing a behind the ear hearing aid, but I really didn't like the look of the bit that goes in the ear, it looked massive, and I think it'd completely plug the ear!
But I'll treat the NHS hearing aid as a starting point. I'll give it a go, and see how I get on with it.
I may end up buying one. I think I'd be happy with a behind the ear model, but with a small tube that goes in the ear, which wouldn't plug me up!
Or I may decide it's not for me at all. I get on happily at the moment, most of the time, and would be fine carrying on as I am. It's a bit of a pain when I'm at work, but I don't intend to be there much longer. I'll just have to be like Mouche's dad and remind everyone to speak into my good ear
I agree that the vertigo is the worst thing - as it wasn't so bad this time, I'm hoping that it'll die down.
I mentioned earlier in the week that I used My Hermes to post a parcel. I posted on Monday and it arrived on Wednesday, which I thought was great. I was at the local medium sized shopping centre this morning, and the dry cleaners have just started taking My Hermes parcels. That'll be really handy, as it's convenient. I looked at the website, and noticed the local farm shop has also started My Hermes. that's a short walk from here, although maybe slightly too far to carry a heavy parcel.
I've been using Collect + , but will switch to My Hermes now, especially as it's a bit cheaper.
Not doing much today, it seems very hot and sticky.
I found two bottles of Spanish lager in the cupboard under the stairs so we had a drink with lunch. I just want to sleep nowEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Hey gg,
Sorry that the appointment was difficult, and that you're having to consider the hearing aid. We bought my dad some 'private' ones for his birthday present, but just as the old ones did, they are now gathering dust because he's so used to it, he feels better without than with (if that makes sense). I agree that when you're not at work, it probably won't be as much of a problem, but I'm still sorry that you're having to go through it (and sending hugs).
Hope that you managed to sleep off the lagerx

Well I did have a snooze...it reminded me why I don't normally drink alcohol at lunch time
:rotfl:
This morning I did my online Sains shopping. I managed to run up £135 !!
I haven't done a big shop for 3 weeks, and the things I needed didn't have much in the way of offers. However, the things I use but didn't need this time had offers on them, so I took advantage of the offers while I could. Plus, there were offers on some of the things I'm stockpiling for use next year, so I took advantage of those offers too.
So it's a big bill, but it means that at some point in the future I'll save, so I feel ok about it
I've started a HAF - a Hearing Aid Fund
The thing with hearing aids is, I thought they were like glasses. something you automatically started using when you had a problem.
I've worn glasses since I was 7 ( never even used contact lenses), so I was thinking that, as I now have a bit of deafness, I'll get a hearing aid. Until I read everyone's comments ( thank you so much, BTW, it's really helpful), it hadn't even occurred to me that I could carry on as I am now!:rotfl:
But, in case I do decide to buy a Hearing aid, I've started a little fund. I intend to pay in a bit each month, and I'll also put in cashbacks, the £5 Hx monthly reward, and my share of the money raised from selling my friends things on eBay, plus any other extras I might get.
It makes me feel as if I'm doing something constructive, and if I don't buy a hearing aid, then I can use the money for something else.
So the first payment into the HAF was made yesterday - my £99.33 tax rebate.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hi Goldie, I'm glad the NHS aids will give you a starting point but, as you say, the decisions about what you do / wear will be up to you. It's great that your HAF stash may help to widen those choices available to you sooner or later (or can be used for something you'd like more when you reach an optimum amount)!
Glad My Hermes is working out for you.
Take it easy and all the best for the coming week. xStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

Thanks Hbbb:)
Had a storm last night, lots of flashes of lightening, but at least the thunder was in the distance.
We've had a little rain this morning, but it seems to be brightening up, so I'll get the towels washed and out on the line.
I'll do the eBay run. I've got 7 parcels, made up of 4 jigsaws, a batch of postcards and two handbags I've sold for my friend.
I've decided the next money generating thing I need to get into is surveys. Yesterday I signed up for YouGov, and today I'll sign up for Ipsos. They are the only two I can think of, off the top of my head, but I'll do a bit of digging for some more.
I looked at the Swagbucks thread, but that seems very complicated, and it looks like you get targets, which I wouldn't bee keen on....so I'll give that one a miss
About 3-4 years ago I went through a stage where I went in for a load of competitions, and won a few bits and pieces. Anything I didn't really want or need, I sold on eBay. So I'm going to do a few random competitions each day, just for fun, and the possible excitement of winning, and maybe one or two extra eBay sales a year!
I've got a 'spare' email address to use for all this, to keep it all separate from my 'official' email.
Have a good Monday everyoneEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Just catching up. Sorry about the hearing loss, but, great on taking positive steps with the fund. I've a friend with loss in one ear and she has learnt to cope remarkably well, deciding that at 50 she was far too young for a hearing aid.
Will keep an eye on your competition progress - I used to do a few years and years ago and won some really useful stuff so I started did a couple in the horsey magazines a few months ago but haven't really kept that up. Used to do surveys too but got demoralised with being screened out. But as I spend so long sitting at my computer I am thinking I could maybe use that time usefullyHave only done the medical ones lately and have £30 waiting to be cashed in, which is fabulous as they paid £15 for just 2 surveys!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -

The last time I did competitions, I was really into family history, so I used to read two or three family history magazines a month. Each magazine would have two or three draws each month, and because they were low circulation magazines, it was relatively easy to get a win every month or two.
Well, today hasn't quite gone to plan - I've had another vertigo turn
When I was typing this morning's post, I felt a bit odd, but I thought I'd ignore it and it'd go away. I went out and posted my parcels, and managed to ward off the feeling, but as soon as I got home, it hit me.
So I took one of my tablets, went to bed, and fell asleep. Next thing I knew, it was noon and the postman was ringing the doorbell:eek:
Fortunately, I'd slept it off, and felt a lot better
So the towels were hung out this afternoon, and due to rain showers are still wet. I'll dry them over the clothes horses instead. I haven't done my normal Monday housework, but I'll catch up with myself over the next couple of days - a bit of dust never did anyone any harm :rotfl:
But it hasn't been a totally lost day.
I've transferred my share of my friends handbag sales to the HAF. Actually it's 75% of my share, as I'm going to keep some money back in PayPal for fees etc. But £18.75 is very welcome.
I've requested my £32.29 Green Metropolis book sales proceeds to be transferred out, so that'll go in the HAF, when it's received.
I've signed up with two more survey sites, and my balance on one stands at £5.25 already. I've now got to wait for surveys to become available. I'm not sure how long this will be, as I'm not exactly in the young, upwardly mobile, movers and shakers category these days. Just hoping someone will be interested in the opinions of a retirement wanabee who gets dizzy spells!:rotfl:
Also went in for some random competitions. I see a lot are on FB and TW these days. I'm not into social media, so I leave those ones out, but I found some comps that caught my eye.
The online shopping order will arrive between 6pm and 7pm, so I'll soon be all stocked up again,
Both credit card bills arrived today, so I intend finalising the financials this evening.
So all in all progress was made, in spite of the vertigo.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hi GG
Sorry to hear you had another turn today. Hope you are feeling better now
If you are still after survey site suggestions..I can recommend a couple:
Valued Opinions - they are reliable and it's easy to cash out £10-15 a month (more if you get a high paying survey)
One Poll - these are very short surveys ranging from £0.10p up to £1 each. Payout is £40 but I find that I usually reach it a few times a year. I like them as they feel less onerous than some of the others. You need to log into this site daily to see what surveys are available though as you don't get email invites like some other sites0 -

Sorry you've had another dodgy spell GG, but good that the meds do work effectively (even if you do have to sleep it all off a bit). Frustrating as it is to lose some of your day in needing to nap, it's good that it helps and sounds like you've still been very productive!
I've given up with online surveys (apart from the RM one) ... I always get booted when I can't answer TV based questions (no TV), so impressed that you've got over £5 on one already! I used to post product reviews onto Doo Yoo too, for Amazon vouchers, that might be something to look into?
Hope today's better for you xStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

Morning Goldie, I do shop and scan and consumer pulse. If you don't use them, let me know and I'll post details.
Sorry to hear about the dodgy spell but glad to read that it went reasonably swiftly. Although frustrating, it must be a comfort to know you can deal with the episodes more easily with the meds.
