Thanks so much for sharing the recipe :) I can't wait to try that out - sounds yummy!

I hear you on being a kindleworm ;) I seem to be a book hoarder on mine - more than I ever get round to reading but I can't seem to stop adding them :o
  • I hope you get back into a better work mode this week, it will seems long haul until Christmas with only one day off! We too are getting away for Christmas but haven't told our families yet......
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

it's the 99p daily deals that are my downfall, although I have now limited myself to authors I've read before, or genres I really like.

It might be only one days holiday.... but I only work two days a week, so I'm not that hard done by!

Our parents are no longer with us, and as we have no children, we don't have any real ties for Christmas, but I can imagine it'll cause some consternation when you reveal your plans - but it's only one Christmas and I think you are entitled to do your own thing for once!

    Another Monday dawns

It's nice and sunny - I managed to get all my washing dry yesterday, after dodging rain showers, and it looks as if the towels will dry nicely this morning.

As it was free listing on eBay, I listed about 20 fairly random articles. So random, that I'll be surprised if many of them sell. But if they do, there'll be a lot of packing needed.

For dinner this evening we'll be having chicken and leek bake, which will make a change.

Apart from that, I'll just get on with the normal housework.

    Have a good Monday

Loving the sound of paprika beef and cruising. Am adding both to the mental list of things to do. Suspect be paprika beef will become a reality sooner :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Paprika Beef is now on my list of recipes gleaned from this site - thank you.

We have often toyed with the idea of going away for Christmas. But now both our Dad's have gone, we feel we are obligated to stay at home sort things out - which is fine by us at the moment.

My tax refund cheque turned up yesterday:j

I'll probably get it paid in on Saturday, as I should be passing a bank branch. The money's ultimate destination is savings. That's where it would have gone in January, if the Inland Revenue hadn't made the mistake in the first place.

I'll be doing a large spaghetti bolognese today, enough for four meals. I'm trying a different approach with batch cooking. I had started by putting aside a whole morning to do Spag Bol, chilli and cottage pie, but found it to be a bit much, especially the washing up. So now I'm going to do one dish at a time, but in mega proportions. I'll do a mega chilli next week.

Apart from that, I'll just pop out for a look at the shops and will get a bit of work done in the garden.

Good news on the cheque, shame it doesn't come with 6 months interest, might stop them from getting it wrong in the first place :rotfl:

Chance would be a fine thing.:rotfl:

Mr Goldie dropped to a four day week in the late summer of 2011.

At that time, we said we'd be able to have BBQ lunches on our joint days off.

Due to a combination of doing other things, or lack of good weather, we have today managed our second Wednesday lunch BBQ since summer 2011!

I went out first thing this morning to get supplies.

The good news - as I had a £10 'Home' voucher from the M&S Premium Club, I bought 4 needed tea towels for just £2.50.

The bad news - my BBQ food cost £17.66

But I have enough for another BBQ another time ( if we manage to get the weather), and it was delicious, so it's all good

So, although it's a very hot day, we are chilled out and relaxed

  • I sat today and read through your entire diary and found it really interesting. I have already retired, 10 years now, but still found a lot in your postings are similar to my own life. We also have other pensions than the OAP and find we manage very well including cruises every other year. We also use P&O and sail from Southampton as I hate flying and OH medical condition makes it a bad idea anyway. The years in between we have coach holidays and between the 2 we have enjoyed lots of new experiences. I also worked part time for the last 18 months before I retired thanks to a very generous present of a lot of money from my BIL that allowed me to still draw full time money during this time. The best present I ever had was the free 20 hours per week for 18 months. I have always said that money can only be spent once and although obvious it took me a long time to come to terms with that. Now I am very careful with my cash so I can afford to do the things I want to do. I am really glad your health has improved and I hope it continues to do so. I look forward to reading more posts from you.
