I had a very nice tea out with my friends yesterday evening. The friend who gives me things to sell on her behalf on eBay has given me a box of bags to sell. There's a couple of Radley bags, a couple of unused bags, and a bag I was with her in November when she bought it for £65.00 and only used a couple of times. Plus a few other bits and pieces

They'll be things that will be fun to sell and should get a good price. We share the proceeds, so it'll be a nice bit of extra money. But I must admit I continue to be surprised about the amount of good, almost new things she no longer has use for!

This morning we've popped out and bought a couple of things like cheese and butter, and a loaf and milk for the freezer, so we have things ready for when we come back from holiday.

I'm just about to do the grocery order for our return.

Then this afternoon we're going to get clothes out for packing:j

We've picked another courgette which we'll have with dinner this evening. If we have more ready by the end of the week I'll chop and freeze them. The courgette growing experiment has been a success, so we'll do it again next year. The cucumber plant right next to it isn't doing so well.

Oh, while we were out, we also bought something for our new life next year - a rucksack, so we can use it on days out, for our lunch, bottled water and flask etc. We had M&S vouchers, so only had to find 50p!

I managed to get most of our clothes out yesterday and they are now all lying on the spare bed. Today I'm going to get all the bits and pieces out that we will take, and then everything will go in the cases tomorrow.

Today is my last washing day. I've got one load of washing on the line, and another is currently being washed. It's quite bright out, so they should dry quite quickly, then I'll get them ironed later.

I also intend giving the garden a quick tidy. The lawn was mown yesterday, so it shouldn't take long to pick up the leaves that have fallen in the boarders.

    Have a good day, everyone

Thank you - It'd been nice to prepare calmly. If I work before I go on holiday I get quite frazzled with the packing

Mr Goldie's M&S credit card bill arrived this morning, so I've had everything that I need to do the money shuffle before I go away.

    Really pleased with the results.

Shopping came in at £195.31, or 60% of last years average

General spending, which included a couple of days out, came in at £388.86, or 73% of the amount that I allowed for this purpose.

We did have additional expenditure in the shape of the private health costs incurred by me this month. But I've covered this with a combination of the money that I was able to claim back on my health costs insurance policy, the underspends from above, the contingency fund, and saving a little bit less.

Even so, was still able to save £1740.

    So, a good month.

Now for lunch, and then I'm getting things put into suitcases!

Well, we are very nearly fully packed, just a couple of dresses and the last minute bits and pieces to go in the cases.

Looking at the internet, there is still low water on the Danube, and people are being shuffled around via coach to the next boat down the river.

The company we are going with has listed the cruises that are affected, and ours isn't on the list. I also phoned them yesterday and they claimed they weren't aware of any problems. I have a feeling they weren't being entirely open with me, as we've got to go through the stretch that hasn't been navigable......

But, all we can do is go with the flow, and see what happens.

At this point, just before a holiday I always get a bit nervous. It's the thought of leaving the house unoccupied and as we haven't been on a river cruise before also a little bit of the fear of the unknown.

But once I'm on my way I'm fine, and always have a great time, which I intend to have on this trip.

I'll be back in just over a week, so bye for now

    xx

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
