Been monitoring this all with interest. My other insurance policies has other car cover - but states other car mustn't be owned by me. I suppose I could say my partner owns it and i'm just the RK but I don't fancy a day in court trying to persuade a judge.

Driving uninsured is not an option to me, for a couple of reasons
    - it would just be typical I got caught! Our town often has a police car circling!
    - I drive for a living and would have to declare the points to my licensing authority and this would see me hauled in front of a licensing committee and I could potentially lose my livelihood!

Not worth the risk for £30. So I think i'm just gonna fork out the money. At least if I got caught then it would just be MOT or tax then and although that would hurt financially, it wouldn't ruin me!

    Thanks to everybody that contributed!

In the interests of concluding this thread..

I paid just shy of £28 to insure the vehicle and transported it a few hours ago. Took the whole of 10 minutes round trip with my partner following to bring me back home. :)

You were lucky not to get caught with all the ANPR cameras about these days. They aren't just on police vehicles, there are also fixed cameras mounted all over the place. These fixed cameras alert nearby patrol vehicles if you are detected by them.

So for anyone else who is considering doing the same there are a couple of things to consider:
    • You could be fined up to £1000 for driving an untaxed vehicle.
    • Your car can be seized for having no tax. If it is seized then there is a release fee of up to £200, plus a daily fee of up to £20.
    • Having no MOT also carries a maximum fine of up to £1000.
So although the OP was lucky and got away with it, anyone considering doing the same should weigh up the above risks against the cost of getting the vehicle transported.
