I had one of these rare things called an interview at the start of the week, I thought it went well enough but got this old phrase at the end and as per usual heard nothing. In fact I've had this phrase at 90% of the interviews I have been to and have never heard anything so am wondering does "We'll let you know by the end of the week" mean "You've been unsuccessful now go away"? Has anyone ever been told this and got the call and got the job? I think it is damn right rude not to inform people who have taken the time to attend and interview and in my case lost 3 hours pay.
It can mean anything so if you have not heard by the time they said drop them a friendly email. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

If you do get the 'unavailable' line then ask when they will be available. If the person doesn't know, then say you'll call back (say an actual time when it will be convenient to you - the next day or so) and then make sure you do call back at that time.
Also leave your name and number, even if you think they already have it.

There's threads like this almost daily on here.
Can we just accept that sending personalised letters or making telephone calls to each rejected candidate aren't a priority for most recruiters?
Accept this and life's little disappointments will become easier to deal with and move on from.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

Not really.
You get people that do this sort of stuff when there's something in it for them.
Once they get they job they're not that interested.

I guess most of the applicants posting here have not been involved in recruitment within the last 12-18 months...
It is very time consuming to do your regular job alongside sifting through anything up to 150 applications/CVs, set the shortlist criteria and shortlist against them, spend 1/2/3 days or more interviewing the shortlist, discuss and agree on the succesful applicant and then let them know before processing a new starter (references etc).
And you want each & every recruiting company to let you all know if your interview wasn't succesful? I'm sorry, but I think a reality check is required. People just don't have the time to spare to do this anymore, or the office juniors who can send out the "sorry" letters.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Funny, but I thought working in recruitment included shifting though applications/CVs etc? As in, it forms part of your regular job - clue is in the title surely?
And yes, darn right I expect to get a notification either way after a job interview. Its bad enough being ignored after a rejected initial CV application -but are we really expected to accept that we aren't going to hear back after an INTERVIEW?
Geez. Disgusting. I am sorry, but it just is. Should be part of your job description.0 -

If you re-read my post, I said "involved" in recruitment. Not "working in recruitment". And no, it wasn't part of my normal day-to-day job in local government, hence the comment about the time it takes to recruit.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Regardless of what you actually do Floss my general sentiments remain the same. Sending out rejection letters after an interview should be something that happens all the time, as a matter of course, rather than the 50/50 situation that happens at the moment. There is no excuse whatsoever not to do this other than blatant disregard for the job applicants. The ¨too busy¨ excuse doesn't wash I am afraid.0
