Has it occured to you that some of the other residents may have bought there because they wanted to live on an estate free from vans and dishes?

Maybe they have, but as the covenant isn't for their benefit but the developer they are a bit foolish if that's the case as they should realise they have no way to enforce it once the developer moves on.

They type of person who worries about rules like no vans or sat dishes really needs to get out a bit more.

So I should suffer because I drive a van not a car?

Why move onto an estate that forbids vans then? It's not as if they are changing the rules after you bought.

Signed papers (deposit) before they told me.

    Why silly?

As I've never brought a new built before a question of " oh I own a van is that ok" maybe I should of asked if cats were allowed seeing that I own three

Always best to read a contract before signing it.

Nothing on contract that I signed, the sales person happen to tell me while she was talking parking rules. I've asked for a full document but like most things on this estate the rules and goal posts are moving all the time.

As much as I love the house the way the builder is changing it's becoming rather fun

I rather suspect that it isn't the "rules and goalposts" which are changing, but your awareness of them.

FWIW, I wouldn't have said that your van fell within the spirit of the restriction, even if the letter of the restriction could be interpreted to include it.

Actually on my new build estate they do say a reasonable number of domestic pets. |I have 4 cats which they are OK with but I don't know what they would say if we'd bought our chickens instead of donating them to our daughter.

Re vans there is a size limit on the estate I live on. My main issue with vans, and this is due to the size of some, is parking. Despite the fact every house has a garage and a parking space very few use the garage for their car so the parking space is used and the second car parked on the road, this narrows the road so that only one car can pass comfortably. It also makes it difficult if anyone has visitors.
