I am lost here..... seems that lots went on last night but the atom thing was because it was said by one poster, who had got it wrong, but then agreed with by the patientmummy Irish poster. People got the idea they were the same person.0

Oh I know it happens, but IMO people obviously have way too much time on their hands....0 -

If you read my reply to my mistake being pointed out I openly apologised for my mistake.
I also clearly stated on here that after saying both words out loud they still sound the same.
I did say that I had posted it on Facebook asking my friends and family what they thought it was, Atom, or Adam, and the majority said atom.
However I didn't appreciate being laughed at and being made to feel belittled.
I also don't find it funny making fun of people's way of speaking and their accents. That's can actually come across as a bit racist IMO. I'm not saying that it was, but to others that's how it could be read.
I don't think you can be racist about "the north" can you and nobody was making fun of anybody's accent.0 -

I said the word atom. That was my mistake, and admitted I'd never thought about it before, but you know what who cares if it's wrong or not, or why I never questioned it before.
There are a hell of a lot of sayings that are used everyday by people and myself, that don't make sense to me, but you know what, I don't care. I don't feel the need to go and look that saying up on the internet to see what it means or how it's supposed to be said. If you grow up hearing a particular saying all your life for certain scenarios then hey presto, you continue saying it.
It appears that just because another poster appeared and agreed with me - albeit I didn't agree with some of her posts - the bullying one being one of those - people decided that I am sad and stupid enough to open up another account. Now why anyone would want to do that is beyond me, I can just about remember my details for this account - which I've had for about 2 years now, never mind another account!
However I also have more important things to worry about in my life than to laugh at people, belittle them, make fun of them, accuse them of disliking their children, and judge them because of how they bring up their family, make fun of their accent, the place they live in........... the list goes on as to what I've had on this thread!
I'm not someone who picks on anyone nor do I like or agree with it also!
What this thread has taught me is that there are some very nasty people on this site who will do anything to make another person feel rotten! Those who have done that to me.....You must be so proud of yourselves, well done you have accomplished your goal in making me feel small and humiliated.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -

Because I said adam and atom the same yes, people were. They were making fun of my accent as they both sound the same to me and I, and many others on my FB account thought it was atom.
Either way, who cares if it makes sense or not, as I have said, there are plenty of sayings that don't make a lot of sense to people, yet they still get used, so why pick on me for this one??Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
"Ermm no offence but the nursery can't do anything about it if it happened OUTSIDE the workplace and she was with her own child. And if they did so something about it, then I hope the girl in question tells them where to go!"
Hi, The above would probably be correct if the incident was completely unrelated to the type of work. But in this case the incident revolved around a child's behaviour and the nursery workers 'over' reaction. So the employer may be concerned about this.

I think anything that you do as an employee can have repercussions in work. If it shows the employer in a bad light it could be classed as gross misconduct. As you say, that is even more likely if it has an aspect that is related to your type of work.0

Could I suggest that you start a new thread? The OP has already acted on her question, and you really are not doing your own cause any good at all. And at the same time, please understand that to many non-Irish speakers the phrase "Jesus Lord" is not a phrase that is used in common speech - to many of us it is extremely offensive and taking the Lord's name in vain.0

Here we go again.
Whilst I don't agree with anything IrishRose says....the 'I can do what I want outside work comment'....no, not if it brings the company into disrepute, and it would be classed as gross misconduct, so no, you can't.
The 'atom' comment, I very much doubt that nearly every other person you know says that? But who knows, maybe they do? But 'from Adam' is a very well known phrase, but anyhow, I think that subjects been covered to death by now, and I think she gets the message.
But now people are picking up on other phrases she's saying? Give it a rest guys. I have heard a lot of people say that phrase, wether they are Irish or not. Up here where I am from in the North, a lot of people say Jesus Christ I've put it in white....just I case it offends anyone. :cool:0
