Brackets wouldn't be needed as all multiplication should be done before any addition or subtraction. It's just Total Film setting a shoddy question. They obviously want 100 as the answer, even if strictly speaking it's incorrect.Soooo long since i've been to school but if you get the answer -46, shouldn't the sum have read like this...8 + 3 - (4 x 2) + 1 - (5 x 10) ?
I got 100 too.

gone with 100, cheers op0

Maybe they changed it, but -46 is an option, so what now?
I am a maths person so I guess I will go for that, but if they accept it, what happens to all the people who said 100? 0 -
They have deffo changed it
That is soooooo unfair as the answers yesterday were 80, 100 and 120

Thanks for this. As a mathematician I have had to go with the -46 answer. I guess the site must have had so many emails of complaint they had to give the real answer as an option. Perhaps they will draw the winner from the two answers?Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. It wasn't me - honest!!
It looks like -46 is the middle answer, which 100 was yesterday. So fingers crossed when they're selecting the winner at random, it'll be all the ones with the middle answer (if that makes sense).:)From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

I was just going to say that Mpython, they have changed the 100 to -46 so it's the same place on the answer area - where the 'correct' answer should be so we should all be alright.
They originally should have had -46, 100 & something - then it would have been a better question!!!Jo x2007:£5181.09 2008: £6619.70 2009: £4284.49 2010: £5213.14 2011: £4980.62 2012: £3188.52
