Nationwide flexdirect 50p overdraft charge

Did you raise a formal complaint? What was Nationwide's formal answer? You can't go to the ombudsman before you have a final answer from Nationwide, or 8 weeks are up since your complaint.
As to impact on credit score: I haven't seen them reporting a default for me - perhaps because I have never been overdrawn, despite those silly unarranged overdraft charges.
However, I have noticed today that I no longer have any Nationwide offers. Perhaps my internal credit score with them is shot to pieces because of their errors? Can you still see any personal offers?
Formal complaint is ongoing - I've messaged them to add this as yet another example of their (ongoing) ineptitude.
I have a 'My offers' link - it states "You do not have any offers to display.". However I never use this so have no idea what it normally shows.0 -

I know there are at least three threads where this charge is mentioned. i.e. NW seem to levy a charge on accounts that are now dormant. If not paid they then whack you with another charge the next month.
Seems to be an account specific issue with the logic to be deduced. In our case my wife had 5 accounts all funded to the £2.5k max till the % return was reduced, whereupon they were reduced to zero. In my case 4 stoozed overdrafts to the total of £9.4k were paid back just before the year was up. None of the 9 are showing any charges as of now. Thay were all opened within days of the offer becoming available.0 -
I was awarded an unauthorised fee of £5.00 because my flex direct account was 1p overdrawn for that month. First of all the 1p came about because the previous month they paid me too much credit interest and they were claiming it back.
However I did have an overdraft facility set up and bearing in mind the first £10 is free no charge should have been levied.
I complained and received a £15 payment.
Not sure whether it affected my Internal rating with so tried to increase my overdraft to check and the system allowed me go up to £2500 but i have noticed all my offers had disappeared.
Very disappointed in NW.0 -
I have noticed those Nationwide BS 1p tax claw backs when they paid me interest on my £2,500s never seen it on other bank/savings accounts which pay interest."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

Another 50p charge.
This now means I have had this charge on all (five) of these types of accounts I held with them.
The first time that I complained (Dec / Jan) on a first account they offered a small amount of compensation and 'monitored the account' and promised it wouldnt happen again.
I'm looking forward to the reply to the official complaint in the next week or so that the ombudsman can be made aware of the repeat failings of this institution and hopefully get them focussed a little more.
It might be a little old fashioned but I'd love to love mutuals like this. But when their systems and procedures are as an inept as NWs that makes it impossible.0 -
Watch out Archi, April 31st isn't far away.Archi_Bald wrote: »This is indeed rather bizzarre.
I had 5 FlexDirects, one of which has now been closed, and all of these have reached their natural, or early, maturity over the last month or two. On 4 out of these 5, I was charged 50p unarranged overdraft fee for February 31st (!) , which in itself is obviously a massive mistake that should never happen, particularly not on accounts that never were overdrawn in their entire life.
I got 50p refunded on 3 out of the remaining 4 on March 31, after I complained and spent a good hour in total on the phone to them over this issue. Goodness only knows why the refund was not for all 4 but the compensation I got so far covers the odd 50p.
Now would you believe it - - - they charged me 50p unarranged overdraft fee once more on March 31st, even though I have still not ever gone overdrawn. Hello, earth to Nationwide, earth to Nationwide, anyone alive on your planet?
Nationwide, I am now getting seriously bored. Just get your house in order and never ever charge me overdraft fees again if I do not go overdrawn. I have of course raised a further complaint already. I would encourage other 'victims' to do the same. 50p isn't much, but it is just totally unacceptable that you get charged for things you should not be charged for.0 -
Oh joy, pain at both ends with this account. The initial internet setup was farcical, followed by the slowest faster payments known to man, the website designed by a 10 year old (Who wants to scroll down to see their latest transactions) Mediocre short term offers, I was hoping for a dignified exit, but seems this is not to be. Their £50 refer a friend gimmick is laughable, I could only do this to my worst enemy.0

You sound very bitter. I am very happy with Nationwide overall and would happily recommend them - made in the region of £600 so far from the FlexDirects, had a great Flexclusive Regular Saver, a superb Flexclusive ISA, and enjoyed free european travel insurance and credit card cashback for years. They just made a dog's breakfast of these phantom unauthorised overdraft charges, and they are taking way too long to correct the problem. But they are not fundamentally a terrible outfit to deal with.0 -
Not bitter, but dogs breakfast would sum up nicely my 11 month experience with Nationwide.0

I agree - time and again they offer some superb, market leading products (e.g. 4.25% ISA, these C/As and other C/As, RS in the past) but time and again their systems, procedures and inability to follow or implement their T&Cs which go along with these products are less than market leading.
As I say - its a shame.0
