As I say - its a shame.
In the recent past, Nationwide's somewhat sloppy T&Cs have worked in customers' favour though

This Nationwide bug just wont go away. Received a letter from their E-Closure Team stating that they were unable to close my account due to outstanding charges - the dreaded 50p error. Letter advised that I contact them on the number on the letter which put me through to a different customer advisor who spoke to them while I was put on hold. They advised that I send them a secure message explaining the problem which I have just done. Back to square one."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

Its bonkers, absolutely bonkers0 -
Happened to me too. Are they just trying to delay the 'churn' rate of these accounts being closed down so they don't seem to lose all the new customers they introduced last year?0

I sense you're crediting NW with a level of control to which they aspire rather than what they have.0 -
I was told by one of their customer service staff it costs Nationwide money to run each current account. Can't remember if the figure they quoted was £12 or £15 per year. So it is to their advantage to close the unused current accounts."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

Balance of £1.20 in two accounts but still charges £12.50 for being overdrawn - Spent over half an hour on phone - they said it would take 5days to refund, but I could not close the accounts until June as I am now overdrawn this month. Had previously had the 50p charge on two other accounts.
Said I wanted to make an official complaint and close these accounts.
An one off mistake you can overlook, but this seems to be happening to lots of people. Hopefully I can get these accounts closed soonestTypically confused and asking for advice0 -
Yet another £12.50 overdraft charge - on a fifth account. Closed the other four. Had left this one open with a balance just incase they had any offers in the future. Still not heard anything about my last complaint made earlier this month.
Will check to see if this is refunded tomorrow as promised and then put in another complaint.:mad:Typically confused and asking for advice0
