Hi all
I know there are at least three threads where this charge is mentioned. i.e. NW seem to levy a charge on accounts that are now dormant. If not paid they then whack you with another charge the next month.
Hence I would suggest you check and complain.
Its now happended on three of my accounts over the past four months. All of these have never been in the red (until this charge applied).

I can't see any dormancy fee mentioned in the T&Cs or rates/fees list. What fee specifically has pushed you into overdraft?MFiT-T3 #149: {Q4/14} (£46,447)-->(£0) ~ +£46,447=100%

I cant help you on this - and NW arent helping either.
I (and other people from reading other threads) have these flexaccount accounts with no overdrafts. It seems that a month or two after no longer funding these accounts (and removing the balance and interest etc) that NW systems somehow mess up and add a 50p overdraft charge even though the account has never been overdrawn.0 -
Yes, that is poor and NW should be being proactive on this. Thanks for the heads up @veryintrigued.
As a matter of principle, I always keep a positive balance of £100 in any dormant account to guard against the unknown. Sadly to late for yourself. :-( But perhaps something for those to consider with £0 balances if this issue is to continue to raise its head.MFiT-T3 #149: {Q4/14} (£46,447)-->(£0) ~ +£46,447=100%

If a charge has been applied incorrectly, just raise a complaint and it will be corrected.0

This sounds like very bad advice, and not something that you should accept under any circumstances. They have no right to charge you unarranged overdraft fees if you have not gone overdrawn. Raise a formal, written, complaint.0 -

I've already gone down that route for a first account. I was hoping that I wouldnt have to do likewise for the second and third two months later.
Ive seen (at least) two other mentions of this mysterious 50p charge on other threads. Am sure typistretired was one.
Hence I was just trying to highlight it to others to be aware of as NW systems seem inept.
Anyway...onwards0 -
This is indeed rather bizzarre.
I had 5 FlexDirects, one of which has now been closed, and all of these have reached their natural, or early, maturity over the last month or two. On 4 out of these 5, I was charged 50p unarranged overdraft fee for February 31st (!) , which in itself is obviously a massive mistake that should never happen, particularly not on accounts that never were overdrawn in their entire life.
I got 50p refunded on 3 out of the remaining 4 on March 31, after I complained and spent a good hour in total on the phone to them over this issue. Goodness only knows why the refund was not for all 4 but the compensation I got so far covers the odd 50p.
Now would you believe it - - - they charged me 50p unarranged overdraft fee once more on March 31st, even though I have still not ever gone overdrawn. Hello, earth to Nationwide, earth to Nationwide, anyone alive on your planet?
Nationwide, I am now getting seriously bored. Just get your house in order and never ever charge me overdraft fees again if I do not go overdrawn. I have of course raised a further complaint already. I would encourage other 'victims' to do the same. 50p isn't much, but it is just totally unacceptable that you get charged for things you should not be charged for.0 -
