To be fair that's not strictly true -I booked 14th July today STN to Palma for £150 for both of us (Easyjet) - the hotel we booked - right on the beach at Santa Ponsa was reasonable -and although I booked half board there were plenty of AIs at less than we paid for half board.

Why can I not find a decent hotel with decent reviews in a decent place for our budget. I don't want to throw over a grand for 2 of us and not have a nice hotel. Searched for weeks and it's the same old hotels with rubbish flight times too.

Yes I know having a bigger budget will get us in to a fancier hotel but it's not possible. We've spent over a year saving up for a nice week in the sun All Inclusive but it's not enough.

If money is tight why go All Inclusive ? And why stay in a hotel ?
There are far cheaper alternatives if you self-cater and spend time trawling websites like everyone else does.
You have to do it yourself and not wait for someone on here to wave a magic wand and produce the perfect holiday for your budget.
Either that or go to a travel agent.
But please - cheap holidays are not an entitlement and they do require some effort on behalf of the person hoping to find one.

Try not to worry about reviews too much. We've been to places that have had terrible reviews and had a fantastic time x yes sometimes they have been basic but all we've pretty much needed is a bed to lay our head. In Tenerife the apartment was clean but basic but it had the most gorgeous view out over the pool and then the promenade and sea. It was gorgeous to sit out at night with a drink :-) that had some bad reviews, mainly I think from people who expected 5* like the next door hotel but had only paid for a 3* hotel. A holiday is what you make it, I think most of the bad reviews from some places are those that get their magnifying glass out and purposely look for the little problems. My only warning bell would be if near enough every review was bad x

Stanstead is long but could be an option if it's cheaper.

    Agreed
I read reviews of hotels I've stayed in sometimes and wonder if we stayed at the same hotel.
Some people have some very odd expectations

I'm another one who when "travelling" goes it alone but for a "break" where little more than sun, beach and laziness is required all inclusive suits. OH wanted AI this time but we've compromised on HB as all the AI hotels had reviews about stag and hen parties causing issues (I guess cabbing distance of Magaluf is the problem) so a hotel that doesn't offer AI males sense in high season for us.
Ideal world would have been an AI that guaranteed no stag/hen groups.
