MOT failed

The one time I've used a council test centre, they made it _very_ clear that I was very much in their way, and that they'd have loved to have told me that my business wasn't wanted - but part of being a test centre is that they have to be open to anybody. And, yes, I got a big long list of totally unwarranted spurious fails out of it.
Centres we've visited tell us this guide gave them a fourfold increase in members of the public visiting. They said they were grateful as it secured their jobs at a time when councils are cutting back. Good news, as it means you're seen as a welcome customer, not an annoying distraction.
They've always been friendly and helpful with me, even calling me down into the pit to show me where they've found a potential fail point to keep an eye on in future.0 -
I run my own testing station and any of my customers are welcome under my lift to see something I may have failed or advised.0

IM going to council test centre asap.0

You could always use the likes of weonlymot.
I've always found them to be pretty good0 -
Yawn. I'm not questioning your comments about council MOT stations.
It was your assertion that most independent garages are on the fiddle. This is patent bo11ocks, and a pathetic slur on thousands of honest small businesses.
I repeat, anecdotal evidence does not give you the justification to spout crap about an entire industry.0 -

So find me the evidence that thousands of motorists are switching from council testing stations to independent garages in order to get a more trustworthy test, then.
Put up or shut up.0 -

You have to do that by law, I was replying to the point that AdrianC was making about whether staff make customers welcome or not.0 -

Put up or shut up.
But you're the one making an unfounded accusation regarding private businesses offering MOTs.
It's been explained to you that your anecdotal passage about 'thousands' of people using council centres doesn't constitute evidence to back up your accusation.
Its your place to prove your allegation, not for the other person to prove you're wrong.0 -

No you don't. In fact, HSE regulations would comprehensively prevent it unless the customers bring their own PPE, or you supply it*.
*I accept, and encourage, the pragmatic approach that recognises that the type of customer who wants to see under the car on the lift is also likely to be well aware of the risks posed by the workshop, and therefore ignores the HSE.0
