Well when I came back in 2011 the situation was even worse – it took me two months to get a job. The unemployment rate in the borough I live in is 0.9%. Now I have no doubt this is skewed by certain government schemes etc, but not many people are out of work.

Like you said it is skewed by government schemes, zero hour contracts, part-time jobs,, etc.

Did you know that people get removed from the unemployment statistics when they do their eight week placement through the DWP?

Two months isn't nothing anyway. That is still a fair length of time. Perhaps it will be 3 months this time, or 6, or 12?
You should not be too dismissive of others

    Either way 0.9% isn’t bad!

No sorry I didn’t know that, I have never really been unemployed. I’ve always found a job very quickly.

Yes three months would be nice. I will probably take a month or six weeks out to travel around Europe and then maybe get a job a few weeks after getting back depending upon how I feel.
  • I am not, but as I said none of my friends have ever been out of work for more than a few months and some of them have very little in the way of qualifications.

So what are they doing right that the OPer is doing wrong?

They are polite and courteous. The OP hasn’t even responded to, or thanked anyone who has taken the time to comment on this post. I would suggest that if the OP is taking this attitude into his every day life and any job interviews he has then it is no surprise he is unemployed.

Has it occured to you, that the OP may not be uncourteous but otherwise engaged in being out and about job seeking etc?

Not everyone sits on an internet forum 24/7. But it doesn't mean that they're uncourteous.

I hope the OP has been out and about job seeking, but if he can’t take two minutes out of his time to come on the forum and give an update, or even just say ‘Thank you everyone for your suggestions/advice/support, etc, etc’ then I would say he is uncourteous.

I always make a point of thanking people who help me at work, on this forum or in life in general. Even if it is a short email or message, it is the polite thing to do and you never know what affect showing a little gratitude can have in the future

Are you really telling me that someone who is unemployed couldn’t manage to do the same?

Maybe, they are not present to do so, maybe they'll come back online soon and contribute further to the thread.

Look.. we're both making assumptions here, but yours was overly presumptuous and not overly justified in fairness. You talk about uncourteous and put yourself upon a politeness pedestal.. but actually you've been a bit uncourteous yourself here.

  • If they are desperate for a job then they would be doing a great deal of job hunting at the moment and a proportion of that would be online. Meaning they could easily check this website.

I am sorry but I was brought up to show good manners and that includes saying thank you to those who help you.
