Car Giant Review

Does a Bat Signal go off in your bedroom when someone criticises CG? :rotfl:
You'll see i did make the same analogy - you dont negotiate with Tescos so why should a car supermarket negotiate on price so i guess its fair enough
And i did wish the O/P all the best with their new car - glad they got a car they are happy with - good cars Civics. My sons stuck two years of hard abuse!
Love it.
A bigCG in the sky.0 -
I bought a car from Car Giant, never again. Soon after purchase, the car required a new turbo which cost me £2,000 in repairs. I traded the car in elsewhere after 6 months of ownership.
It is better to buy from a place where you can take the car back if there is a major problem.
Well. Why didn't you?
I assume it was a vehicle fitted with the 1.6 diesel engine as fitted to some Pugs, Citreons, Fords and Volvos?
If it happened soon after purchase then it would have been repaired free of charge.
Or did you not read the rest of the thread fully?
I had a new heater matrix fitted to a Renault 25 back in the early 90's after it sprung a leak. I asked Renault how much that repair would cost and they said little change from a grand. Part alone was £300 apparently and the dash has to come out.
Got it done for nothing no arguments no problem0 -
I am simply stating my experience with Car Giant.
Judging from your previous posts, do you have mental health issues? The need to be right is not normal behaviour.0 -
A bit of a tongue in cheek comment here, but if you are happy to pay a mechanic £250 to change brake pads, it wouldnt convince me that you got a good deal from CG, which given from your review they seem to have behaved only as anyone would expect them to, would be a differentiator for me?
Were you able to negotiate a discount off the sticker price?
What about the "admin fee" of £99 for buying? Did they knock that off?
The demister maybe. But i'm not sure anybody would expect them to replace brake pads for free.0 -

The squealing noise could have been an acoustic wear sensor.
I have seen them fitted to a couple of Japanese makes, Subaru and Nissan.
But since you would have to strip the pads out to add some coppergrease or similar they may have felt they might aswell go belt and braces as the pads will be cheaper than the labour costs and sometimes even after stripping and cleaning things up etc a noise can return, leading to more expense.
Parts prices seem to be cheaper than they were a few years ago whereas labour charges have crept up over the same period.0 -
I have posted a while ago about the issues I had with the 2.2 Civic I bought from them. Clutch gone at 40k miles, they replaced it (after I kicked up a fuss they even sent someone with a platform over to Reading to collect it, although it would have probably been fine to be driven back as the clutch was still biting a bit).
Honda would have wanted £600 to replace the clutch.
Then a water temp sensor went and after speaking with them I booked over at the local Honda dealer in Reading and they paid without a fuss.
Make your own judgement (my own is: mediocre car, reasonable dealer).0 -

I bought a car from them a few years ago. Took it to a dealer for a service and check over shortly after and they advised that the discs were corroded. Car Giant paid the dealer to replace all brake discs and pads. No argument, they just paid by credit card. And I didn't have the warranty.0 -

Did you not go back to them? If it really was soon after purchase (ie fault probably existed at time of sale) they should help. Failure of a component can happen on any car, especially when it's a few years old; if you want protection against some of the big stuff, then you should buy a warranty, otherwise you take your chance and self-insure.0 -

Watch out.
Nash1977 will accuse you of having mental health issues for not agreeing with is point of view.
Though he is the one who didn't do as we both suggested.
So who really has issues. Lol:rotfl:0
