Thanks all of you. Have just rung the 01133 904000 number for cheaper phonecalls. I asked for the Car Insurance department. Got straight through. The Advisor said would give me points without the quote if I wanted. Said do antually need a quote so he asked for my clubcard no and gave me the points! He then advised to do the quote online rather than using him and it will come to 15% cheaper anyway online!. As it happens my husband works in car insurance so will get it cheaper than them anyway but a very good deal with my free points. Thanks.

I've just phoned the 01133 number and got through really quickly. I'm an existing customer and they wouldn't give me the points!! I did try for a while and told her it was a bit unfair and I might have to go elsewhere if I can find a cheaper quote! She still didn't budge. Sounded like she was having a bad day. Mardy bum.

Other people have reported similair attitudes, including no points without a quote. Best idea is to phone again, and say you want a quote starting in 2 months. They won't give a quote, but will give the points. You might be able to get the points added even though you're a customer, but best to not mention it, and wait for their systems to detect that you're a customer instead.

Just did mine - really nice lady - asked if I wanted just the points or the quote as well. If just the points then she would simply add them! She did say that today is the last day for points.

  • Got mine today cheers. If you tell them that it is for a car that you are yet to buy they give you the points as they cannot quote without a reg number!!

Just tried and after waiting about 5 mins talked to someone who said they couldn't quote if the renewal was over 30 days away, and that I couldn't have the points if they couldn't quote. :-(

    Rubbish!

Phone again I think you just got a lazy call handler !!!!!!
  • 22 minutes waiting to get through (good job it was a call from work ), nice man asked me straight away if it was related to the clubcard points offer, I said it was, he took my name, postcode and clubcard number and job done in under 60 seconds!

Easiest £20 I ever earnt (well apart perhaps from the £100 from Barclay's for opening a new account with them) - thanks Moneysavingsexpert, much appreciated
I'd be happier on holiday in Brittany than being at work !

Not so easy for us. They wouldn't accept DW's clubcard number because it's a Tesco Mastercard clubcard and apparently it's a security risk for them to enter the number on their computer! They told DW to phone Tesco Personal Finance who confirmed this and said we would have to go to a Tesco store and pick up a temporary clubcard to use for these points, come back and phone them to link it to our existing clubcard account, then call the insurance department back before 8pm today to get the points. What a load of unnecessary hassle.

As it happens, I have to go to Tesco anyway this evening (and we needed a car insurance quote too, though I would normally get it online) so it's not as much of an inconvenience as it could have been.
