British Car Auctions, "assessed" my car yesterday help needed

A BCA assessor turned up at my house yesterday to inspect my Audi, as I had a PCP agreement for the car over 3 years, I decided not to buy the car, but return it, BCA act on behalf of Audi. I have kept my car in good condition, and had it checked over last Thursday, but the assessor handed me a report saying it needed £900 worth of work done, to bring it to minimum standard. One of the repairs "needing" done was the rear bumper, the only thing is, the rear bumper was not repaired, it was replaced, so the repair was not sub standard (as he put it), it was a totally new bumper. I need info on what to do about this, and how to fight it, there must be other people and cases like this, I am sure I am not alone with this, any help will be appreciated.

There must be some contact information on the form. But did the assessor not allow you to look over the report and show you the issues before they left?
  • He did not show me the report, handed it to me and started walking away, I looked and said hold it, before I could say anything else, he said here is a form if you dispute anything.

did it say why the bumper was sub standard? perhaps it just wasn't blended properly?

Something easy to miss for the casual eye but for someone who works in the motor trade they develop a sharp eye for the slightest differences in paintwork.
  • He said it was a sub standard repair due to rippling, but this cannot be as it was a totally new part.

It might be a new part but it would have still required painting, parts such as this don't come pre-painted. So basically what they're saying is the paint job is substandard. Where did you get the bumper repaired/replaced?
  • The reason he thought a repair was done, was due to the fact that the parking sensors still had tape on them, and he had assumed a repair was done, not a replacement. I took it to my local body shop yesterday after he had been, and they said the guy was talking absolute garbage, It was an independent company yesterday.

I'd use the form, then. And since it sounds like the new bumper had just been fitted (still has masking tape on) then I'd submit a copy of the receipt/invoice for that work.

This every part requires painting. You need to get clarification from the inspector as to exactly what is wrong and take that info back to the garage.

At this stage it's one word against the other. The inspector could be chatting out of his !!!! to get the price down. Or the body shop could be chatting out of their !!!! in order to avoid rectifying a poor quality job.

Now I'm sure you didn't tell him to look out for the replaced bumper, but a casual glance told him that it was a crappy fix and has listed it as such. What's to argue about? Was it the same bodyshop who fitted it who are saying he is wrong?
Remember, a trained auction assessor who works for BCA (who also own Webuyanycar) is going to pitch the value at a quick sale price, not what you'd get by selling it over a couple of weeks in Autotrader.

    That explains a lot.
