Nexus phones run the latest version of Android. I tend to agree though the 5 is expensive compared to the 4 which was around £160.
Is a Lumia a Windows phone? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks, and the above is partly the reason I bought an iPad mini rather than an android tablet. When I was looking for my first smartphone in 2011, I had a choice between Apple and Android.
At the time I came to the following views:
A phone make releases a phone with a certain version of Android. Once a new version of Android is released, the phone maker stops supporting that particular phone with that particular version of Android.
Android phones have a greater probability of getting malware because the environment is not controlled.
For those reasons I chose Apple, including the legendary support available from Apple. However now that Steve Jobs is gone, I am not sure how long that will last.
I am not recommending either environment, but suggestions for you to do further research.
One of my priorities when buying any new technology is the level of support and how easy is it to obtain that support.
DD has had a couple of cheapish Samsung phones (the last of which, now about 4-5 years old I currently use) and a Blackberry but will be getting an iPhone in the summer. DH has an Android phone which he seems to use mainly for playing games on  :wall:
I have tried researching a few phones (via internet, review sites etc) but was hoping for some real life experience from people who've actually used them.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
the reason i prefer android is that you can get a lot of budget phones on it with access to the same apps that the top end ones have (there are some that wont work) my son uses one of the cheap £50 phones and he seems to have no issues with it running any of the same apps my Galaxy S4 runs. Not had much experience with windows phones but the ones i did use seem to not be as user friendly.0

I believe so. I'm getting a vibe that no-one likes it although the phone seems to get good reviews :huh:Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -

But I'm not interested in apps
My priority is something for easy emailing and web browsing while out and about.

Given what I said, I would probably still get an iphone as a replacement for my current iphone. This is due to the support and the malware issues.0 -
I have considered it, but don't really want to spend that much.Given what I said, I would probably still get an iphone as a replacement for my current iphone. This is due to the support and the malware issues.
If I didn't already have the iPad I think I could have been persuaded :think:Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
I've got a Windows phone - a Nokia 800 (now discontinued, I believe) which does all that I need it to. My requirement was similar to yours and there are more than enough useful apps that you may find useful (weather/train times etc. etc.) even if not in the numbers available on android. The mapping I find is generally good.
If you like the look of it and price I'd go for it: I've no intention of changing mine until it goes wrong or I finally take the plunge towards 4G.0 -
My HTC One V was playing up, even after factory reset, anyway, I too decided to get a new phone. After speaking with my SIL who is in the mobile phone business, he advised a Nokia Lumia 925 for my needs. (I'm not much into apps either). He rates the Windows phones highly compared to android, which I was quite surprised at.
I'm waiting for it to be brought out to me in Cyprus in a few weeks, so can't give you any practical experience at the moment, but if you are not in any rush, can do when I have my hands on it.0
