Good phones for email?

Hi

After years of 'hand me down' phones from DD, am thinking about treating myself to a new mobile which I can use for more than just texting and talking!

I would prefer to get an unlocked phone as have a good SIM only deal I'd like to keep and would like to be able to take phone on holiday (USA) and use with a locally purchased PAYG SIM.

I'd use the phone mainly for emails (hotmail), texts and phone calls. Not bothered about apps/social media, but would like to be able to browse the internet. A good camera would be a bonus. Not bothered about having the latest hot model, but would like the phone to last me a few years so don't want to buy something that obsolete software will render unusable in the next 24-36 months. Budget up to £200.

Have seen Nokia Lumia 920 for £199 - any thoughts? Would this suit my requirements?
Any other suggestions please?
Thanks

Thanks, but not really bothered about apps, more concerned with ease of using emails

when you say you don't want it obsolete within 3 years what software are you planning on using as a budget phone will do the basics of email calls and text and i cant see the email app getting over updated to the point of it becoming obsolete

What you actually want is a Nexus 4 or probably now a 5.

    SIM free from Google-

That gum you like is coming back in style.

Not planning anything in particular, just thought that this might be an issue given how quickly tech moves on.

Don't want to spend more than £200, not am unable to :D

Out of interest, what is it about the Nexus that makes it worth £100 more than the Lumia 920?

When I was looking for my first smartphone in 2011, I had a choice between Apple and Android.
At the time I came to the following views:
A phone make releases a phone with a certain version of Android. Once a new version of Android is released, the phone maker stops supporting that particular phone with that particular version of Android.
Android phones have a greater probability of getting malware because the environment is not controlled.
For those reasons I chose Apple, including the legendary support available from Apple. However now that Steve Jobs is gone, I am not sure how long that will last.

I am not recommending either environment, but suggestions for you to do further research.

One of my priorities when buying any new technology is the level of support and how easy is it to obtain that support.
