We originally planned to holiday this year in the UK as we have a new born baby.
Since we started looking in to this we have found that a week all inc in Spain would be more reasonable then a week in the UK. We plan to go in September and our baby will be 7 months old by then but we're concerned about the flight. Has anyone done this, do you have any advice? Thanks.

    Absolutely not.

What if the baby needs milk or baby food or nappies?

And the flight. A whole 2 hours on your lap - You must be crazy.

Urgh the reaction of adult on here when someone dares to suggest that they want to take a baby on a flight. A baby might cause discomfort for others on a flight, or it might not.

Is it not beyond the realm of imagination that a baby could stay asleep for the majority of the flight or by it's parents would have the foresight to bring a dummy or bottle to prevent it screaming when their ears pop

It's certainly happened on flights I've been on.
I'm not saying op's baby won't scream, but it's not a given that it will, as some people seem to think.

In a funny way you've proved my point. Both are likely outcomes.

This was also a concern of mine, but tbh my daughters discomfort was my main concern.

I've been on many flights with crying babies and have been able to overlook it, I'm sure if a baby has a little grizzle on a two hour flight it can be forgiven.
What's gone will never come back. But it exists when you think of it ...

Absolutely, when I've been on flights with crying babies I just whack my music up. Everyone has the right to travel and my concern is with the baby's welfare not my ears. I've been to gigs so I can't claim to look after my hearing.

What gets me is the sanctimonious reaction of parents who take it personally when someone makes a general point.

Ok. But you do realise that it is possible to give a bottle, breast feed, feed, or change a nappy on a plane, don't you? [Winking Smilie].
As for sitting with a baby on your lap for 'two whole hours'? Let's just say that for most parents, this isn't a problem or a big deal.

Are you trying to tell me they have all those things in Spain?

    Seriously!

So I hear. Come to think of it, it does sound petty far fetched doesn't it? Probably yet another urban myth!

First child we took abroad when she was 8 months (majorca), then again when she was 14 months(portugal) then 16 months (lanzarote)

Then our second child came along and he was away at 6 months, 10 months, 17 months and 21 months.

Easiest time is when they are under 6 months then you can just feed the whole flight and they sleep on you, and then still no bother until they can crawl when they want down from your lap to crawl everywhere!

Most difficult is when they are almost age 2, so heavy and on their feet, but have to sit on your lap for the flight!

I am just about to book up to go away next month and this will be first time we all get a seat on our own as ours are now age 4 and 2! Although they get a seat on their own they will probably only sit still for take off and land!

Go for it, go and enjoy! When we are on holidays, routines go out the window too but my kids did not have strict routine til past age 1 so they were always able to adapt.

When ours were as young as 7 months we didnt have a routine anyway so we could go out for dinner and then a drink etc no problems, baby would sleep in the buggy.
