I have taken my daughter on several flights a year ever since she was about 6 months old (the in-laws live abroad) and she was never a problem. It's now shes older that we have more problems as she needs more entertaining!
I found that I tried to give her a feed on take off and landing as the sucking motion that they use actually helps with the air pressure in their ears. Spain is only 2-3 hours away so if you try and time naps properly then they may sleep for at least half the journey. The rest of the time can be taken up with snack time, a book and a bit of a play and before you know it it's time to land and you can be enjoying your holiday!

    Great advice thank you

My brother and his wife brought their 2 year old son and 2/3 month old daughter over from Brisbane for a family wedding last summer.

They apologised to passengers around them on boarding but were complimented at the end of the journey on how they kept disruption to a minimum and worked to entertain both kids.

It will be much easier taking a baby of that age on a plane than a year later when they are toddlers and don't want to sit still for long. My worst ever flight was with my youngest son when he was 18 months old. He more or less screamed the whole way to Spain, much to my embarrassment, and nothing I tried would stop him. I could have cried. I have just come back from Mexico. Now that's a pretty long flight, and there was a British couple at our hotel that had a five month baby who seemed fine. I thought they were very brave to attempt that, so Spain will be a breeze!

Shame they let ignorant people on planes, but I guess you have just as much right to travel as parents and children.

I've met a few like you when travelling with babies/children, the kind of people who roll their eyes and start huffing because there are children seated near them. Each and every one of them has thanked me at the end of the flight and have congratulated me on my well behaved children.

You clearly can't see outside of your noise cancelled bubble.

We took our LO to France at a similar age and took one of these with us. It meant she could play at the poolside and we put a blanket part over the top so she was protected from the sun.

Any discomfort is usually short lived, as mentioned earlier, if there is any then having a feed (ie the sucking action) will often help the ears pop.

Again as others have said far easier on a flight with a baby than a restless toddler.

Urgh the reaction of parents on here when someone dares to suggest that a baby might cause discomfort for others on a flight.
Is it not beyond the realm of imagination that a baby could start screaming when their ears pop (but cannot communicate this) and keep going? It's certainly happened on flights I've been on.
I'm not saying op's baby will but you also cannot say it won't.

Is it not beyond the realm of imagination that a baby could stay asleep for the majority of the flight or by it's parents would have the foresight to bring a dummy or bottle to prevent it screaming when their ears pop

It's certainly happened on flights I've been on.
I'm not saying op's baby won't scream, but it's not a given that it will, as some people seem to think.
