I am actually now quite suspicious of you dave.

Why would you want me off ebay for rumbling a potential scam?

    I'm very suspicious indeed.

It seems very odd to accept a best counter offer and then not to pay immediately would you not agree?

Its not the only thing odd around here.

Buyers have 2 days to pay so relax and wait.

If they don't pay - open a none paying bidder clam and relist the item if they still don't pay before the case is closed.

In the mean time - send them a payment request to jog their memory that they need to pay.

I can't speak for the other member, but as I said, someone as paranoid as you should not be using ebay. But as you're suspicious of me, I'll let other people spend their time advising you rather than you take the time to read the ebay rules for yourself.

Not really. It happens quite a lot. Any number of reasons why, most of them not suspicious. With mobile apps it's easy enough to click accept and then sort the payment out later. If there was only one item perhaps the buyer wanted to make sure no one else bought it.

There was a trial for changing best offer, which would allow for instant payment on counter offers and some other stuff, not sure if it's still going on or whether it will ever be rolled out.

If you read the first bit of post 5 you will see the user has been on ebay for a month- so knows how it works- thank you very much...that's basically why I kept out of this, I felt my 15 years or so experience was not going to be helpful

I think you have explained the reason well, I can browse on my phone but being of a suspicious nature and realising that paypal never actually logged out sometimes I choose not to pay on it. So I could buy something while I am at work and not actually pay for a while afterwards. The only thing that can stop me is the 'immediate payment required' button which means I can't physically buy unless I pay.

I've found the 'best offer' facility both a waste of time and a pain, as it attracts the opportunists who convince themselves that they can secure any item for a a fraction of the buy it now price.

When their 'plain daft' offers are rejected, an irritated complaint usually soon follows, along the lines of "I put in offers of £5, £6 and £7 for your £100 item - and they were all rejected! What's your problem?"

You can obviously manually block them from bidding, but I find avoiding the 'best offer' facility is an easier way of avoiding time wasters like this. ;)

eBay UK was launched in October 1999. I don't think it has been around for 15 years yet, or am I just bad at math?

There were UK sellers on Ebay before Ebay UK launched.

As per RFW I joined before eBay UK was launched so two of my accounts were actually registered on .com and for a few years I paid all my fees in dollars until I changed over.

So, you had a US address and you sold to American customers?

No, it was just one Ebay, what is now the US Ebay had all nations selling to all nations. I think the UK was the first to be a separate Ebay company.
It's a bit like how Etsy works now, you just list on Etsy and you have to sort out where the sellers are.
