Buy it now or best offer question

I accepted a best offer last night.

The person hasn't paid.

My listing has gone down though.

What do I do?

I thought with buy it now or best offers the buyer had to pay immediately to 'buy it'.

  • Apologies but no. They just offer to buy. You then have to invoice them and they may, or may not, pay....

So why doesn't my listing stay up until they pay?

By accepting their offer you've entered into a contract with them.

    :D

I've been using ebay for about a month an I know that's nonsense.

    A contract:D

    Anyway.

I've got this the wrong way around.

    They sent me an offer.

    I countered and they accepted.

Why haven't they been made to pay as soon as they accepted my counter?

This could be a rival seller going around removing all his competition.

To be fair eBay do warn you when you list with a best offer that the immediate payment requirement disappears if they do the offer.

Can I ask another quick question in here please?

I bought a computer game from someone that didn't work.

The person I bought it from was great and refunded the money but left no details on how to return the game.

I've messaged them but they didn't respond.

What do I do? I'm not going to get into trouble for not returning it am I?

Also do I leave them positive feedback as I was pleased with how they dealt with it?

If you've messaged them and they've ignored it try again. If they don't reply you won't get in trouble for not returning it. If it doesn't work the seller may not be bothered about getting it back. If they're a business it may not be worth the hassle/cost although they really should be replying to messages. You could maybe say if they don't reply within so many days you'll dispose of it. You need to give them a fair chance to reply. They may have missed the first message, you never know.

Is it a scratched disk? If so it might be possible to repair, otherwise there's probably not a lot they can do about it.

Feedback is to show your experience and comment on how you feel the transaction went so if you're happy then leave positive.

Perhaps someone so suspicious of other buyers, or doesn't know how the best offer system works, shouldn't be using eBay.

There is a way to make people pay immediately when they accept a counter-offer; obviously not if you accept their offer. I've done it before, but I had to close and reopen a paypal account in order to get the option to show up...

I am actually now quite suspicious of you dave.

Why would you want me off ebay for rumbling a potential scam?

    I'm very suspicious indeed.

It seems very odd to accept a best counter offer and then not to pay immediately would you not agree?
