They'll have to change their T&C's if they don't honour two from the same institution as they mention it nowhere. With all new products the CS staff are not fully briefed.

I agree to an extent, but it wouldn't have been difficult for them to have said 'two direct debit mandates from different institutions/organisations' if that's what they intend to implement. I don't recall them using the word 'different' when they launched Vantage which makes me think that some people may be disappointed in a month's time.0 -

I cannot see how they couldn't accept two direct debits for one place, as for instance how would they know that one tesco dd is not for a savings account and other for a credit card?
I personally have managed to set up two dd's to a tesco savings account, and am trying to set up a DD from santander to a savings account as well, so will have three
(in case 1. they only count the tesco DD once, and 2 in case they realise a lot are playing the system to use as savings accounts and that they can decide to look at all accounts with only two active DD's)
that said I'm unsure wether santander will set up the DD as seems a bit hit and miss with them now (i have a feeling they too are fed up with people using their system/accounts so they qualify for interest elsewhere).
worst case senario i could move a credit card direct debit over that i use regularly, but will see if the savings accounts options work first.MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
I think I will take a closer look at this it may suit us.0

On my Club a/c DD screen there are two separate DD mandates to different accounts. They both happen to be to the same institution but that is irrelevant. Think how many people must have DD's for mortgage and insurance and savings with the same bank.
They can't enforce something that isn't in their T&C'sIf the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.0 -

I wouldn't risk it either, though it doesn't seem like a foolproof way of preventing people from "mis-using" the account. Sure, if this is correct they won't pay interest if the two DDs are from different Tesco accounts, but they won't stop a DD from Tesco and a DD from Newcastle BS!
Do you know if you can set up a DD with Newcastle Building Society as we have an old Maturity+ instant savings account with them?
I was going to set up the two Tesco savings account DDs but if you can easily set up a DD for Newcastle online it may be a better option..0 -
OK, OK....
all this 'confusion' re two different DDs is doing my head in.
What is 'easiest' (for me), is to upgrade one of my Classic vantage accounts, increase the rolling payments in/out, to £1500 p/mth, and use 2 PROPER DDs from my Santander account.
New Q...
how to get details of these 2 DDs to Lloyds ?
Using there switch service, I have to transfer all DDs (I think). How do I transfer just 2 ?0 -
It's dead easy to switch a DD. You wait until it has been paid from your existing account, then call the payee and tell them to take the money in future from your new account (sort code and account number).
Although I do not understand why you don't just do the simple 2 DDs for 2 Tesco accounts. But I don't have to understand everything.0 -
I've changed DDs simply using web interfaces before, for both credit cards and bills. It really isn't difficult but obviously if you have many accounts requiring DDs to go out then you might not have enough, especially with this "two different organisations" rule.
Right now I only have two accounts that require 2 DDs each (Club Lloyds & Halifax Reward). Fortunately I have 4 monthly DDs (Electricity, Broadband, Credit Card x2). I also have some more DDs but they don't get taken every month so aren't as useful (TV, unused Credit Card).0 -
I've been offered the chance to upgrade to Club Lloyds for the last week. I eventually decided to click on the link on Friday only to be told that I couldn't upgrade or open a 2nd account.
I decided to use the direct link posted on this forum to apply for a Classic account and upgrade later. Still waiting to find out if my account application has been accepted or not....
Anyone in the same boat or tube train, etc...?0
